I consider you to be one of my mentors. Even though I have never met you, you advise and commentary is truly from experience. When you talked about a subject, I listened. The wise man listens when the master speaks. I try to be wise and do the same. Rest assured that what I have said is not only felt by me. Yep. Many have listened. Me for one. Well said Mark.

When the fight goes down I want you on my side. No man more dangerous than old school fellow. You got more vinegar in your veins than all of us put together. A bandaid and a shot of courage and you will be around for a long time yet. Cancer never met a jakesrocks.

No sea burial for me. Got my hunk of ground on the side of a hill, well above sea level. If I outlast my dog Jake, His ashes will be in the box with me, along with my favorite Fairburn agate. This one? uh... where is that hill again? Maybe you need to carve "found by", then your initials in the back of that agate. A thousand years from now some Zahi Hawass wannabe will be claiming it as part of his "discovery". Hang in there and give it Hell. You may not "win", but your enemy will know its been in one helluva fight! Geezer

Don, you ol' sure shot! You sniped me good on that drill right there haha! I was the only bidder the whole time and even watched it until the last 1.5min.. Went to take a dump.. Came back and wasnt the winning bidder! HA! I was pissed but now i know who the sniper was im honored. Thought you might get a laugh out of that. Also, truly sorry to hear the news. Your generation is tough as nails so im sure you'll give that cancer hell. Just wanted to chime in and send my best wishes. LOL. My snipe bid went in with 5 seconds to spare. Guess I'm gonna have to give you younguns sniping lessons. Let's take 'em on an ol, fashioned snipe hunt!

Did you finish that sphere machine you were building? I don't have the strength to lift it anymore. It'll be passed on to my trucker buddy, along with wiring & other instructions. I was hoping to see the final build on that machine but it looks like you still have a few projects in the works that I will follow with interest. Justin

Do not go gentle into that good night Hell no! It ain't over til its over. Maybe, just maybe, in a world with real justice, maybe someone in a lab somewhere will have an "AHHH HAAA" moment and figure out a cure that can make the criminals richer. Then you can keep on making fun things. I'll have the puppy cross her fingers, she doesn't do a damned thing any way.

Guess it's time to give my rockin friends an update.
First I want to thank all of you for your well wishes & prayers.
Little by little I'm loosing all strength & use of my right hand & arm, making it difficult to type. What used to take a few seconds to peck out on my keyboard, now takes minutes. Being right handed, I'm having to learn to use my left hand. I can no longer sign my name to things, or hold a fork to feed myself with my right hand. It gets aggravating at times, but I'm adapting. At least I can still grip the gearshift in my hotrod to shift gears. Maybe I'll get to drive it a few more times.
What really hurts me is seeing my little buddy Jake. He knows something is wrong with me, but doesn't understand what. He'll hop up in my recliner with me, lay his head on my leg & just stare at me with a sad expression on his face. I'm hoping that somehow I can outlast him so he doesn't have to live out the rest of his life wondering where I went, & why I left him behind.
Anyway, I'm still hanging in there, and will for as long as I can. I'm just as ornery as I ever was. I can still hold my own in the political discussions. Just takes me longer to type my responses.
I'll be around. I log in every day to see what's going on, & respond where I think I might be helpful.
Keep on rockin. --- Don

Rocks are permanent; politics is transitory. You can pick your battles, but I'm hoping you will devote your energy to rocks, equipment, and your friendly buddy at your feet.

Thanks for the update. I feel for Jake. He knows something is up and just doesn't know what. Animals are so empathetic. I know this sucks given that you are right handed, but at least you can still use your left hand. Looking at the positive here...

A faithful dog in you lap or at your feet, a fresh home-grown Tomato, a hug from a child, a walk with a loved one, a nice polished rock. These things all serve to remind me that life is too short, enjoy what you get. It also reminds me why I tend to not get too involved in political discussions, takes away from the good things.
Thanks for the update. Your description of your dog serves as a sobering reminder of what life is really all about.

Don, prayers and positive thoughts continue for you and family, including Jake. Your shared knowledge and life experiences have enriched RTH immensely. Glad you will be hanging out here as much as possible.

Well crap, Don. I'm not around so much anymore so I just found this thread. Youre probably the toughest squid this old jarhead knows, surprised you haven't already driven it away with pure orneriness. Seriously, I'm praying for the best for you.

And that bit about Jake? Reduced me to jello. Made me think about Hobo in similar circumstances.
All the best old man. Hoping for comfort and happiness.

Don, I'm not around here much and just came upon this thread. My very best wishes to you and yours and I will keep ya'll in my prayers. Thank you *very much* for your service to our country. Mark your calendar each week for you and Jake to air out the hotrod...have a destination, a lake, a park, etc., where you and Jake can take a walk/run...fresh air does everybody good. Take care, friend. Ed

New update. I've lost almost all use of my right arm & hand. So much for trying some cabbing this year. Been loosing weight fast. Down to size 34 pants from size 36. Even the 34's are loose on me, but at least my pants aren't sliding down my butt. May have to start using old man suspenders to keep my pants up. At least I have a fancy pair hidden in a drawer.
Doctor has changed my pain meds. No more Lyrica. Got me on Oxycodone now. Get a pretty good buzz from these things. Supposed to take 1 or 2 tablets every 4 hours. I'm taking 1 at noon, & 1 at bedtime. Don't want to get hooked on those things. As long as I can keep the pain down to a tolerable level, I'll use less the prescribed. Don't want to live what's left of my life in a zombie like state.
Sorting through my slabs & rocks. I'll keep a few of the best, just in case I get use of my right arm back. I may make up a few small FRB's of slabs to send out on a first come basis. Depends on how much the pain & meds will allow me to do.
I'm still determined to get the hotrod out for a couple drives before I have to put it up for sale. I'll have to skip my meds on those days. Don't want to fall asleep at the wheel & take out some other driver. As soon as i can hose it off, I'll put my pickup up for sale. Won't get much for it. It's a 99 with less than 36,000 miles on it. After a couple cruises in the hotrod, I'll probably give up my drivers license. Don't think I'll be safe on the road for much longer.
Anyway, that's the latest news. I'm still reading posts every day, but not answering very much. Having to one finger this keyboard with my left hand, using Caps Lock every time I want to capitalize a letter is a real pain in the butt.

Don - I have the utmost respect for what I've seen of your integrity. Wishing you the best of what you have, but it looks like you're already doing that. <3

Don, do you have anyone helping you?
I am only 5 hours away in MN. I am going to MT in May. Maybe I could cut a few days off of the trip and come help you with anything you need help with, but are not strong enough to do alone.
