I know, I know that there is no such thing as a dumb question: there are only dumb people who ask questions.
So, here goes. How do you all highlight people's names in orange? Can't figure it out.
Thanks, Dr. Stoopid

some of us are more difficult to tag then others. If you hold your cursor over someones screen name a box will appear with the tag information. In the photo below you will see that my user name is drummondisland rocks but my tag is @ iloverocksalot when you create a thread or reply to a thread there is an icon right above your text window that has an @ symbol next to a person. That will make tagging easier. Chuck

napoleonrags, may I rephrase your comment about dumb people asking questions? I've done some teaching over the years; many times students have referenced asking a dumb question. I've found, without fail, by asking members of the class, how many others were asking within themselves, the same question. A show of hands has always shown the person asking the question was not alone in asking, whether aloud or not. It isn't a dumb person asking a question, it's a courageous person asking a question. My 2 cts., makes me feel better.

I had no idea that feature existed until you pointed it out. I had been manually typing the tags up to this point, but it does really make the tagging more simple. I just tested with your name, Drummond Island Rocks, just to see how it worked. No more holding the cursor over a name to see the tag. I like it. napoleonrags, thanks for asking your question. Dave

You won't see it on the "Quick Reply" box. It's on the "standard" reply or create boxes, if that makes any sense. Circled in yellow. Dave

The icon in the red circle is there for tagging users. click it then start typing a name and it will start populating choices. Chuck

Drummond Island Rocks < -- test well what do ya know... Never knew that either. I've just been typing them out all these years. Still not sure what a "tag" is either other than just highlighting a name. Does it send some sort of notification to the taggie? If so, I guess I have that option turned off. Never received any message about being tagged - not that I would want to... While ya'll are explaining stuff to us newbies... what the heck is/are Following & Followers ?? I can't imagine that you get a message every time someone you are following makes a post! So what is all that?

If someone tags me in a post in a thread I was never a part of I need the notification turned on or I would never know to go look. That is the whole purpose of the tag. You get to choose what notifications you want to receive in your profile settings under "notifications" Chuck

Or just use the @ on your keyboard and then the username..... That does work too but the using the tag feature insures no typos. Chuck

I can't imagine that you get a message every time someone you are following makes a post! So what is all that? Hi captbob . Yep, the "tag" seems to be exactly what you noted. I happen to get a notification on my Profile tab whenever someone tags me or quotes me in a post. I don't remember selecting notification options when I joined recently, so perhaps that's now the current forum default. Don't know, but you can select different notification features by going into your profile and selecting the "edit profile" button. There, you would go to the Notifications tab. I actually like getting the notifications that I receive. It means that someone has either addressed me or quoted me, and it is a good reminder to go back to the thread and add to the thread if need be. Otherwise, I'd probably forget to go check. As far as the Following/Followers, I can't help you there. Regards. ETA: Well I see that Drummond Island Rocks beat me on this one. Dave

The feature rich "reply" screen isn't an option. I didnt even know the @ was in that page! I am on my laptop now and see it! Thanks Chuck!
