Thanks Drummond Island Rocks! I never get any notifications, because people type "@bluesky" when my Official name is "Bluesky78987" but I dropped it from my little signature thingy. Also new to me about the notifications choices, thanks!

Okay thank you. So what is this Followers / Following thing? It's used for notifications same thing as quotes and mentions. I turned those off. Way too many of those.

Sounds to me that if you Follow someone that you would get a notification every time that person makes a post. (?)
Well, that would flood you with notifications. So you have to turn the notifications off.
So why Follow someone?

So you have to turn the notifications off. So why Follow someone? It does not notify for every post. I think it notifies when the person you are following makes a new thread which can come in handy and would not flood your inbox. If you really enjoy a certain persons tumbles then follow them so you never miss one of their batches. I am on here enough to not miss much but if I did not frequent the board there are folks I would follow so when I checked back in I could see their new threads. Edit: now I am confused. I did not think I was following any users but I just checked and I have two users listed under following. I have never gotten any notifications when those users post or make new threads. In my post above about what notifications I want to receive I do not see any options about users I follow. Looking forward to an expert opinion on this matter. Chuck

That tag feature in the bigger Reply section doesn't seem to do anything. To find Drummond, I hover over his avatar name, and type in Drummond Island Rocks . However, if I hit the icon under the S, nothing happens. I see it showed in orange as Drummond Island Rocks.. @drummondislandrocks This line is a test.

PatThe icon circled in red is the tag user icon. It is there in a reply window, quote window, and create thread window Chuck

Yes, I know what is in the red circle now. If I hit that, and then start typing in Dru etc, it should give me the correct name (iloverocksalot).
Actually, I didn't recognize that icon for what it is. Looked like three circles.
It should be simpler for us simple folks!

If I click on "profile" in the main toolbar (between members and bookmarks) then click "following: (between activity and friends) then I see a list of every post and thread the people I am following have made. Does not really clutter anything I suppose. Chuck

My fault for taking over the account my 12 year old started. Chuck

Drummond Island Rocks captbob Pat Ok, the three above, I did as I think was suggested. I'm in the big Create Post, hit the three circle icon and started to type. A popup menu appeared, and I could just click the correct person. Neat! Thanks for all the help. @shotgunner (just practicing : ) )

If I use the formatting icon for tagging, I can simply start typing "Drummond Island Rocks," and it comes up with the correct tag. If that's not what you were were referring to, I'll apologize and bow out. Dave

Never tried to tag myself in a post before, lol Chuck

Inadvertently, I think napoleonrags may have started a thread that is worth being a "sticky." Lot's of good info here. The Rock Tumbling forum might not be the best place for it, but if there's a board usage area, it would fit in there. That's MHO. Dave

It has some nice features that I don't see on other forums I visit. There are pros and cons to each, but I'm liking this format more and more. It'll be interesting to see what happens down the road. Regards. Dave

But, I understand the cost/storage issue. It will be interesting to see how that pays out (no pun intended). Ugliness? I changed the theme. Not alot of variety, but the dark background is certainly better than the default, IMHO. Dave
