A couple of weeks ago I approached a local farm and asked permission to have a look for rocks, there is a glacial deposit on their property. Her husband wasn't home at the time, and she was a bit cautious, but she let me have a look. Yesterday I dropped in a small simple broach with an agate from their property with a note as they weren't home again. I got a text message today "thanks for the beautiful broach, it's hard to believe something so pretty came from one of our rocks!! Your welcome to come anytime to have a hunt for more" Mostly agates are pretty plain grays, creams and blacks but some nice banding and plenty of cherts in dull colors. There are very few jaspers, one I picked up looks to be some where jasper/agate and moss, yet to cut it up. Interesting some of the oolitic material, some of it solid with very few cavities.

Cool material! When I was working, customers gave me a lot of bottles of booze around Xmas time. I'm a non drinker but handing out those bottles to ranch neighbors got me onto a lot of private properties for rock hunting. Other non drinkers got bolas or belt buckles from rocks from their lands. All good door openers....Mel

It's always great to be nice....No matter what, where or how you do it!!! I do it for rocks, fishing and hunting.............It sure gets you invited back, when you give back to the landowners.........

Agreed. A necklace pendant can be a little like an admission key. Give away many and see what opens up for you.

Do we still call it nice when we are really fishing them with colorful lures, to get them on a hook for or own selfish rock habbit reasons? Sometimes i ask my self this, no matter how nice it seems is it really?

It looks as if you have some nice material there. Congrats on attaining new hunting ground and having the wisdom to show the owners you appreciate them permitting you to hunt on their property. ;-)
