paulshiroma, great idea for the show thread. Believe me, I'm not the forum police. I hated seeing information about a seemingly good show get buried. Heck, the more I read about it, I may have to see if I can clear my calendar. I hate to ask, but how does it compare in size to Victorville (ducking)? I only ask as that's the only show I've been to since getting into the hobby and have nothing else to compare it to. Thanks and regards. Dave

Dave Hi Dave. Actually, the comment about the shows was well taken since it is technically "off-topic", so I did appreciate it. I've only been to five shows: Victor Valley, Searchers Anaheim, Vista CA, Ventura, and Yucaipa. The Yucaipa show is the smallest of the four but it is combined with a city (I think) fair so there was a bit more to see and do than the others. It felt like the Vista show is the larger of the other three (Vista, Victor Valley, Anaheim) but that might be a matter of degrees. All three are really good shows and I do try and support them. If you can make Vista or the Searchers show in May (5-8, I think), you won't be disappointed. Both are really good shows. The Ventura club puts on a good one that I went to several years ago, but they're just a bit too far for me. They had a huge one that was cosponsored by the CFMS a few years back. Hope to meet you! Paul

Cool I might try to make it to Vista, never been to that one. Paul's right, Searchers is a really fun show. I love their silent auction.

So is the Vista show kind of the same flavor as Victor Valley? Outdoors, vendors camping, etc?

I won't be able to make the Vista show this year. Fish is right, the campfire at night for the vendors is really fun.

Sounds fun. I like outdoor shows. Susan, you will have a blast there! This show is one of my favorites. I love the venue, it's maybe an hours drive from me. The setting is a large grass field, spaces are set up and people "camp" in their motorhomes, trailers, vehicles on their space.
Met paulshiroma and family, and <'))))>< Fish there one year. It is always fun, lots of good deals. Have picked up some nice things there.
Would love to see everybody that comes, but don't know if I'll make it this year, will have to see if it conflicts with any prospecting outings. And of course, have the San Diego club's silent auction coming up the end of the month in Balboa Park. Will need to save some $$ for that, it is definitely on my agenda!
Will post a couple of pics I've taken at shows there in the past.

Paul Great information; thanks Paul. I completely forgot about the Ventura show this year. It's too bad, as that's more toward my neck of the woods. April will be the Conejo Valley Gem and Mineral Society show (I think it's small), and that will only be about 15 minutes from home. Ventura is hosting the CFMS-AFMS show in June, so that puts another show in my area. And, with it being a national event, it should be interesting to see. Regards. Dave

Vista show is outdoors in a field but the field is part of the antique steam and farm equipment museum. I think it is larger than Stoddard Wells. Certainly laid out more organized and hooray, nice clean restrooms. For anyone like me that likes old tractors there are acres of old equipment to look at while there. Lots of rock too as it is a low cost "tailgate" type show good prices too.

paulshiroma, It's my understanding it's the national show this year. There's a registration page for attending, but I'm trying to get some clarification from the host club (Ventura) if it is absolutely necessary to pre-register or if tickets can be bought at the gate. When I get that info, I'll be more than happy to create a thread with the appropriate links. Regards. Dave

We are just about all packed up for the Vista show. We will be set up in the same spot this year. We really like this show. It is so much fun to hang out around the campfire at night and our boys love the tractors, antique vehicles and the blacksmith shop. We like that it is on grass too not dirt!!!. Lori cut LOTS of new slabs and loaded up some nice rough and of course I will be bringing fire agates . Stop by and see us if you are in the area and don't forget to ask for your free fire agate!!! Looking forward to seeing you all.

Hi all Went to the show today. I was overwhelmed by the number of vendors. Almost 100. I was told that they had a waiting list. There was lots and lots of great material to cab, or cut for anything else you do. Also saw some fine cabs. I'm not a good reporter because I always forget to take pictures. Hopefully Susan (Bluesky) will go tomorrow and do another of her wonderful reports. I highly recommend this show if you are within driving distance!!! Craig
