In an effort to get a good shine on some stones I tried to eliminate contamination and I'm trying out the Cerium Oxide polish that I got in my grit kit from Kingsley. Cleaned everything thoroughly and added 2 tablespoons CO to a 3 lb barrel half full of rocks and one quarter full of plastic beads with water to about 80 percent full. tumbled for 6 days. They seem shiner than in the picture. The best rocks were the smaller ones about the three quarter inch big. I guess I don't have a patio table anymore ?

if there is a flat surface in your yard or home that's not covered with rocks, you're doing something wrong the red (jaspers?) in your second pic show the glassy shine pretty well.

Well done. I lost my porch table years ago.
Gather no moss, Colin.

I sure do wish I knew where I found those rocks in the second picture ? Guess I'm going to relocate the patio table to the cleanout sink so I don't have to run around so much.

I like the reddish rock in the upper right of the second picture. I like the way your table looks too - it looks as if a child's birthday party just ended. you got a few chips left in the bowl, bits of cookies, candies and nuts tossed around with some white cake icing smeared in places - happy day!

For some reason our rocks in the southeast have candy and fruit cocktail colors. Lots of iron oxides down here. Famous British explorer William Bartram described Savannah River chert as 'parti-colored' back in the late 1700's. colors of the south land

Holy smokes, jamesp . I have to assume that's all self-collected? That would certainly keep me busy for a while. Dave

jamesp - those are so nice! I really need to get down south again sometime, but I refuse to go into snake and gator infested swampy places!
aDave I bet that isn't a drop in the bucket of what he has collected since in one thread he collected 1500 pounds - I think from Texas.

That was coral Vera. It is easy to collect 1000 ponds of it on a 3 day trip. The coral river has mostly small gators. The snakes are real shy lol. Like that really makes you comfortable ha. It is really safer than the surroundings look. Thick vegetation always looks formidable.

Then again, I've got nowhere near the space James does. Coral would be neat to collect, but I'm with you...if not for the snakes and gators. I don't think we've got coral here in CA, at least not like that. Dave

It just happens to be exposed in most cases by river channels. And yes, the rivers are full of life .

Nice group of rocks there. Red is always a winner, but I do like the yellow in the first picture on the left. Yes I used to have to outdoor tables, but my rocks own them now.

Got another batch out with an incredible shine. These were rolling with some of the glass that I pictured in a different thread so there are not very many. Had them in a 3 pound Lortone rotary.

I like the black one in the upper left corner. Does it have sparkles in it?

I like the black one in the upper left corner. Does it have sparkles in it? That one up-left is an Apache Tear, and Yes it has a deep 3 dimensional sparkle that really shows up in the Sun. This is the 3rd time that I've polished it and it came out great this time, as did all the other rocks and the glass too.
