Anyone headed through Central WI, specifically SE Portage County?
If so, stop by and have some fun.
Here are specifics on what I can offer for some great collecting for Wisconsin Jaspers, fossils, huge agates (5+ lbs), volcanic material and who knows what.
I live in what has been identified as a very unique area. Edge of the Green Bay Glacial lobe. Edge of ancient Lake Wisconsin. Have an esker running through property. A mostly dry creek bed/wash on one side of esker. A large stone fence from the 1800’s. 5 acres of field that was reworked a lot this year. Saving the 10 acre field for myself. I have only searched along one side of the 5 acre one and found lots of great things. Went about 20’ in on that side.
Much of the material I find is attributed to being knocked off the Niagara Escarpment by the glacier. Too much info to post about it, but it is from when Wisconsin was an ocean.
It is still visible in some areas of Wisconsin to the NE of me running through Door County and on through Canada. Many fossils corals and other sea creatures have been found from it.
Also my Son in Law was finally able to speak with his former Professor and show him some of my finds. Yes, I am finding fossil bones here from as of now, unknown creatures. Professor said this may be a rather significant find, but to not spread any details for now until everything is analyzed. So no details, just an opportunity presented.
Hunting here is fairly easy. The creek bed is the most challenging. Vehicles can drive on edge of field to within 100 yds of creek. Then walk up the esker and down to creek bed. I have a primitive cabin along creek, which could serve as a base station. Complete with wood stove and outside grill. ATV can access it no problem, well, easily within 50 ft of it.
Stone fence require driving to trail leading to it. Then about a 200 yd walk. Fence runs along the edge of 40 acres. About 2-3’ high now.
All somewhat groomed trails here that can accommodate an ATV (or horses).
So, let me know if interested.
