So the miners sit on it for awhile, (probably NOT generations) and the prices go up due to diminishing supply. The miners then start mining again at a better profit.
Thinkin' the miners aren't taking into account that we have other rocks to play with. Hope they enjoy their rock soup for dinner.

Zebra rounds well, solid, takes an easy polish. Good stuff but not dramatic.

Capt., you don't mean to imply those noble miners intend to manipulate the market do you? Of course they're scouring the region for new deposits, as they say in the article, and you can be sure they'll put any they find under claim ASAP to make sure the market stays squeezed. Human nature's pretty predictable if you can see past the PR flim-flam.

Cool looking but that stuff looks to large for crabbing.

Cool looking but that stuff looks to large for crabbing. Too large for crabbing? I thought you could go crabbing with pretty much anything you can tie to a hook.....

or, another perspective
sales suck, extraction and transportation costs are high and it simply ain't worth digging anymore. I have seen that stuff. its mudstone. doesnt polish well and not every piece looks so organic. prices were high already and I passed every opportunity.
And, NOBODY hardly at all travels to the Kimberleys. Its a super rugged trip. At least it was 10 years ago when they discovered a new python!

I'm not usually a cynic and tend to always believe in peoples good intentions, but when I read the article my first thought was capitalism through and through. Not to infer that captbob is a cynic...

Being labeled a cynic would be one of the nicer titles attributed to me! I can live with that.

Hah ha ha. , you can crabb with anything. But when I mess up on a cabb my cabbing turns into crabbing, and I have to take a break. Nice catch I tell you that spell check.

Thanks for that link. Cab is neat but nothing like that huge blotchy patterns in the original link , would make nice counter top or table in lays .

I think it makes cool carvings and such but only takes a nice satin finish kind of like the argillite from the death valley Indian Paint Rock site. Their primordial stone is kind of cool looking too. Looks like stromatolite stuff but it too is also apparently pretty soft....Mel

I realized I actually have a few pendants of that stone which I picked up at Q more than a few years ago. Not cabs, just tumbled (?) stones, with a hole drilled at the top. What Mel just said, they only have a satin finish. I'll try to post a pic.
