Pretty smart using a dent puller. I have a few of those. I'll have to keep that in mind next time I get a big rock. jamesp- you be careful! That storm looks to end up in Georgia after Florida. Looks like captbob's house will serve as a wind block, all we get is the rain Tela. Lots of rain. A bit of wind.

Might as well stick to the original plan and get a coral expedition in. Wish me well. As long as that 14 year old boat motor runs reliable. It started on first pull, good omen. changed oil gas grease. Honda, should do fine.
May God have mercy on those in Irma's path.

Ha, never mind. Thunderstorm hit river last night. Trip cancelled.
Probably a good thing, it would take forever to get back home(200 miles) with evacuee situation.

fantastic5You may want to look into this hotel on your river trips. It is in Quitman. Is cheap and looks to have lots of personality. I cancelled the 4 nights. They said they were booked out due to evacuee's. A good distance from I-75. www.westernmotelquitmangeorgia.com

Lol, saying goes 'what comes around goes around'. Paying price for aggravating...understood. Alright now... not quite my wording. I started with a Sorry for you. Then admitted to being less distracted at work with the cancellation of the trip (which I knew would be no consolation for you). But as far as the aggravation goes...I live with boys...I understand aggravation

GLAD to hear that you have cancelled your trip, lol. Good to know you will not be facing Irma and the hordes of people in her path evacuating.
Hopefully, conditions will improve and be perfect for your river excursion post haste! Terrible conditions from Irma now may improve the (coral) hunting conditions in the immediate future. Lord knows you need to get away from the drama.

Sorry about the rain messing up your trip. Really.
Don't think that this doesn't mean that you are still a doody head though!

Sorry about the rain messing up your trip. Really. Don't think that this doesn't mean that you are still a doody head though! It rained just enough to make coral covered. Just barely. Shame. Thought I had a fine escape. Old coral fella used to call them doody heads. He collected heads and sawed the cap off them where the best colors and polyps were. Those heads in your area often have doody bodies and real nice caps on them. So if you find slabs off the sun facing cap they may be his.

Sitting back watching the hurricane on the news. They fascinate me. This one in particular. Hot weather chicks too, going thru the channels with the clicker. I wish I could be in the eye. In some kind of a super boat. Traffic will be a nightmare.

No doubt about that! A veritable 2 lane parking lot for miles and miles. In SoCal, they have a name for nightmare traffic - "Carmageddon!" Usually used when Caltrans has to shut down a major freeway (usually over a weekend) when repairs/modifications need to be made to the roads. Sometimes, it lives up to its name, but it seems most times, people take heed and find alternate routes, making it not as bad as had been projected.
James, only you would want to be in the eye of it, lol.
I hope the advance warning of Irma's eminent arrival has people moving at break speed, that they don't linger to see if it will hit them.
Really worried about the people in the Keys, especially Donnie's Rocky Treasures , who is in Key Largo. I heard on the news this morning that the Keys average only 3 to 5 feet above sea level. Storm surge is expected to be ten feet, may just scrape everything clean...

Mrs. Donnie had to have gotten off the islands. I don't suppose anyone would be comfortable staying on the Keys and yes they are just above sea level. Maybe in high rises. The news guy said it would probably be OK just to move to the east from the west side of peninsular Florida Once they figure the track. Lest it goes up the center perhaps. It should pass in a day, not supposed to linger like Harvey did.

jamesp perhaps you can get on one of those planes they fly into the middle of them. In a boat Dave. Where this 50 foot waves are. Unimaginable. Unsurvivable though, lest you had a real special boat.

So survivable in a plane doesn't appeal to you?

WoW Mel this is a fantastic thread. I have a similar debacle ahead of me being a new rockhound and all. I have a 12' X 22 ft room that used to house Garden Tractors. This hobby takes equipment but it also takes a place to put that equipment. I will be looking fwd to the finished product. Duke
