To all our members in Texas and Louisiana which may be in the path or rain areas of Harvey, PLEASE be careful.
This storm doesn't look like anything to be taken lightly at a Cat 3 and up to 35 inches of rain expected.
Get out if now need be and stock up on provisions if you plan on staying put. Good luck finding provisions at this point! That kinda storm and rain may mean stores and gas stations are gonna be closed for some time. And power out.
Good luck and best wishes. Check in if/when you can.

We've just had one tiny precursor storm so far and it dumped 2.7 inches in about an hour. Really impressively heavy rain. Had a creek flowing down my driveway past my shop where it joined two other creeks in a torrent. Thankfully, we're kind of on a hill so it drains off pretty fast and the pastures and ponds do need the rain. My friends from the coast have already booked it the heck out of there...Mel

I've been watching the news about this hurricane all day. It looks scary. I don't know how many RTHer's are in the path but please be careful if you are.

It's hard to gauge how much rain we will get, some estimates up to 20 inches.I'm on higher ground so I cant flood. But it may be Wed or Thursday next week before it decides to leave the area. I'm afraid this is going to be a major catastrophe in the making for many areas in Texas over the next week.A hurricane like this hasn't been seen before.Usually they come ashore and move on rather quickly. But not this one.Gonna stall and meander around slowly, very slowly!

Henry, Jeremy and that younger bird watcher guy (Richard?), are in the Houston area. Anyone else? Don't think that place is built for 20+ inches of rain.
Hopefully, they have battened down the hatches and headed for higher ground.
Stay safe Texans!

No major issues on the northwest side of Houston. A bit over 3 inches in the rain-gauge so far. The issue is how long this storm stays around. If I was in a flood prone area near a Creek or a River I would be very worried. We had a 15 inch rain in 6 hours back in April of last year and no issues for me. Lots of others were not so lucky. They could see a repeat of those floods and over a much larger area of South and Southeast Texas. Waiting to see what goodies Jeremy will be finding on the San Jacinto when this round of flood waters subsides. Will need to make the effort to get over there in a few weeks. One bright spot for me, I did manage to move about 800 lbs of Big Bend Wood and Agate out of garage and onto my new storage area, it's all going to be washed nicely in the next 3 or 4 days.

Henry,it just started raining here. The bands are tracking from you to us now.Gonna be a long week ahead looks like.Power outages are a main concern of mine,as are the tornadoes spinning off these bands. Not in pine country,so not many tall trees to fall on power lines, but many things can happen. Good luck!

Looking at the radar, there's a long band of rain extending from your area down just east of me and out into the Gulf 200 or 300 miles. If that holds together, there will be some serious rain dropped somewhere. Tornadoes are the real scary part of these storms for me. I did ride out Hurricane Alicia back in 1983 on the Southeast side of Houston. Being in a house with trees all around and having 90 to 100 mph steady winds with higher gusts is something I will never forget.

A funnel cloud was just reported touching down about 2 miles from the house, we have had to tornado alerts in the past hour. The rain is coming in short intense bursts now, poured out 5 inches from rain gauge. Snuffy take care, this latest band is heading your way.

To get the thread on a new track, should we be expecting some great new finds posted from southern Texas?

Sure hope Jeremy remembered to set his Agate and Petrified Wood traps in the San Jacinto, should be quite a catch after these flood waters subside!!

Still ok here. 17 inches of Rain since Fri night and counting. We did go out last night to a friends and the roads were empty. We were in my truck and route I take has always been ok, no underpasses, or creek crossings. staying in today and plan on doing a good bit of cutting on the saws.

"HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- While Harris County's forecast in relation to Harvey calls for heavy rain similar to Tropical Storm Allison, emergency management officials say it's not quite time to evacuate yet. Houston officials are showing signs of frustration after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott urged anyone who can to evacuate before Hurricane Harvey arrives. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner on Friday tweeted "please think twice before trying to leave Houston en masse." His plea came shortly after Abbott held a news conference urging Gulf Coast residents to pack up and leave, whether or not their cities are under evacuation orders." So, (Rebublican) Gov. Abbott advised residents of Houston to evacuate prior to the storm arriving. About an hour later Democratic Mayor Turner of Houston contradicted the Governor and told residents to stay where they were and that they didn't have to evacuate. I wonder who the media will blame for this?
