Whoa you left Out Chuck/Drummond Island Rocks as a World Champion. I think he was out first World Champion and has placed also. Thanks Bill - I didn't mean to slight Chuck, or Rob, or Andrea, or Scott, (or...?) or leave out any prior winners and we do have quite a list of celebrity tumblers. I was just focused on this event happening right now. I've been considering making a custom page on the board (like our homemade equipment page) showing our local contest winners by year - not sure how to pull all of the information together though unless I had help. We'd need the list of year, names, placed, and photos of person and entry stones would be great.

craftyshawna by any chance did you find out what next years rocks will be? A couple of years ago we found out from a picture of the contest display case. Andrea.

Found out that I placed 8th..... must do better next year I emailed Lori yesterday and she said I got fifth with a score of 77 out of 90 possible points. Must have tied because craftyshawna also said she placed fifth. Now we need to find out how many people actually submitted rocks. 5th or 8th out of 100 don't sound too bad but 5th or 8th out of 10 would be a different story, lol Chuck

ChicagoDave. Nice trophy! And if they do what they did the last two years your name will be on their ad in Rock and Gen magazine each month. Andrea

Maybe some of those folks there that haven't got a clue will come over here to have a look around. Although, I do enjoy going to the RTH Facebook page once in a while just to read the stupid stuff. Easily amused

The FB page is going absolutely bonkers right now - maybe summer is over and everyone is back on their computers?

I do not know what the whole list looked like, I didn't get a good look at it. There were 3 or 4 of us tied for 5th, the whole thing is a point system so several people did get the same amount of points in a few cases. I was told there were 21 people who mailed back entries and there were 13 places since there were ties. If i can remember sunday when i go into the workshop i'll see if i can get a copy of the list and share it with you guys. I did get a few pics of the contest display but i can't figure out how to share pics on here. Something about 3rd party photo hosting I'll see if i can remember to ask what next year's stone will be too but they may not share that info till closer to letting us get the rocks.

21??? Worldwide? I'd be curious to see how many applicants there were to get 21 entries. How many decided that the rocks they sent out weren't worth tumbling or returning? Maybe worth noting for the organizers.

I think the organisers are doing a great job... the reason they chose this years material was to challenge everyone. There is no point in giving out material that is easy to tumble. If you do that then you will end up with everyone tying for first place. My raw material was bad... really bad but it was the same as everyone else's and I got beat fair and square.... I also was willing to be embarrassed by the result... helps to focus the mind next year
Cheers Scott

We've all had challenging material and we've all had material we declined to even put in our barrel. Unless you have lots of barrel space, it isn't worth wasting room and time on something you can't get excited about when it's done, trophy or no trophy, in my opinion. Guess that's part of their weed out process, and it worked.

Yea, they should do the contest with hard agates or pet woods. Go with Mohs 7. Many tumblers just don't do well with soft or chalky rocks. Guessing the top placements had Lot-O vibes since they are user friendly with polishing soft rocks. Winners should still get a big pat on the back though. Those that can tumble soft rocks are in a class of their own.
There is too much work, time, and expense to tumble to risk not having a good outcome. Give the novices a fair chance.

Well, if this picture doesn't cause t-shirt sales to go thru the roof I'll be shocked!
