I’ve finished another cabochon class this past week. My instructor wasn’t as good as Steve @bittersweet, in the way of beginner cabochon instruction but good thing that wasn’t what I was there for. What he does do is after you prove you can cut your first cab he begins teaching a very basic Intarsia. Some have questioned if it’s called Intarsia or Composites. Regardless.... I LOVE IT! My instructor Paul The lady was my favorite in the class. She is retired military special ops and she was kick ass! You may recognize 2 of those cabs. The large jasper “eye” and squiggly I only took back to see if I could get any tips for a better polish. The squig turned out super? Who knew a worn out 3000 grit wheel was just what it needed This was my first cab. It’s turquoise smelted together with a bronze colored epoxy. Next Pics are my agates: My tigers Eye I’m not giving up on. But no close up pic just yet either. This is the chrysocolla piece. Now for the unveiling: This was made with 6 pieces The sides and backing are Green Jade. The middle primary is Imperial Jasper. I took a picture of the finished piece with a faceted Green Quartz because that’s how I intend to wrap this piece. This is a very small write up on the basic steps. If you are interested in a video that explains the steps in an illustrated power point you can find it on YouTube. It’s called Part 1 (and 2) YouTube Rockhound Intarsia. I really liked it and I met Bill Boggs the instructor that produced the video and teaches the class at WH. He was taking Advanced Silver Inlay, that’s my NEXT class I’m taking!! All an all it was another wonderful week!! Here are a few extra pictures of the other classes finished work that’s also given at WH. Thank You for looking. Had to show off my sisters work! These are from the Silver 3 Inlay class:

Beautiful work! Your intarsia piece is going to look amazing with the green quartz.
And the saw work on those bracelets and rings under the Inlay III class! Holy smokes. It's always been on my wish list to take some classes there -- now I absolutely must make that a reality!

One of the collecting areas is under a wide electric power line cut at end of sub-division road not 2 miles south of Kingston. Or most of the logging roads in the area. It is float for miles. It is a bit softer than western jasper. slower to tumble polish. Kingston jaspers www.flickr.com/photos/67205364@N06/9565340573/in/album-72157635350617772/

Some have bizarre color mixes and patterns. Fractures a common problem with it. Storing you west rocks in boxes ? Send em here, I'll gladly store them for you.

Just curious, how many weeks did you sign up for ? You have done what, 4 weeks so far ? Yep 4 so far BUT... 2 have been Cabochon classes, 1 that was my Silver 1 Class was HORRIBLE and the other Mineral ID didn’t have anything to do with the art. We can’t sign up for next year till the end of December/1st of January. But when I can I have a small list started: Scott Bruce Silver II Inlay, Bill Bogg’s Intarsia class then hopefully in the fall Scott Bruce Silver III Inlay class. Scott is only teaching 3 classes for the whole 2018 season. Bill only 2. So gotta get those in ASAP! My Intarsia Grinder from Al should be in at the end of the week. He is so Freaken funny! I also ordered a “real” Jewelers Bench, a 80mm rolling mill and a scroll saw with special metal blades 😂😂 shhh don’t tell Con. When he gets the master card bill for November I may have to split time from your house and Ann’s till he cools off 🙈

That bail, on the triangular pendant, holy crap! Thank You I’m really really excited about taking that class!!! Look close at the pendant bail on this pic. It also has channels for stone. Of course this class is the #3 Advanced so I won’t be able to take it till Sept/Oct. But the Intermediate class will be my first in April.
