When I got into rocks I used his account and changed the username. Is there any way to change the original name Tommy? Chuck

Haha yeah they go through phases but they have had something instilled in them that will always be there. When my boys were smallish I/we were *heavily* into aquariums and tropical fish - keeping, breeding, club meetings, etc. After they got into their teens they showed no interest for a number of years and now they are out on their own they are back into it My youngest has multiple tanks and is breeding cichlids - and is looking to add a 100+ gallon tank as soon as he can.

I have seen a few Granite cabs but we use Granite for tombstones, railroad ballast and countertops these days here. Wisconsin does have some pretty red granite but still too many good agates as you say. I see you are from Denmark. What you lack in cutting material you may make up for in fossil material. I see after googling geologic map of Denmark that you have some cretaceous sediments. Seems like some of the fossil crocodiles are from Denmark. You also may have pleistocene fossil material in the quaternary drift. Is most of your soil glacial in origin? Yeah we also use granite for the same but our beaches are filled with it so it´s hard to ignore :0) Yes we do have a lot of areas that are filled with fossils but but not that good for cabbing, they are to fragile. If you like fossils here are some links to Danish fossils www.muserum.org/kom-og-besog-os/fur-fossiler/fossilerne/Most of our fossils are found at a few locations in chalk www.google.dk/search?q=m%C3%B8n&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwij7JbQs4fYAhUSZlAKHZxRDTsQ_AUICygC&biw=1333&bih=658Denmark was sea when the crocodills and dinosaurs lived so its limited with findings of that kind but we find a lot of corals in chalk. Dont know if our soil is glacial, but most of our rocks came from sweden and Norway with glaciers.

I rockhounded on the beaches of Maine and Nova Scotia and it was hard to avoid picking up pretty stones no matter whether they were granite or not (perhaps I was encumbered by my lack of knowledge in identification of them) and many got tumbled in the vibe and turned into pendants. Granite is beautiful when handled correctly. In point of fact its a bit harder to work so avoided in deference to microcrystalline materials. I'll see if I have photos. I have a good source to look up the different granite and a Danish group on facebook, but the amount of different type of granite just kills me, so I'm on the same plate as you, everything I don't know what is, I just call granite and to top it all we also have porphyr granite www.rapakivi.dk/html/bjergarter.html

Most of my early "finds" were Granite. Lots of interesting patterns and colors, but they undercut like crazy in the tumbler/vibe. I think they will work up better as cabs, but I have so many other splendid rocks that I've bought or were gifted that I will most likely use them instead of the Granite. I'll probably try cabbing some Granite just to see how they work up. Yes the undercutting is bad, they do better cabbing but you still need to be carefull, to much heat when you polish and it will be filled with cracks. I can be frustrating and if I had better alternatives than granite I would.

K2 is azurite included granite. Not mine Now THAT is something you dont see in Denmark, they were the only thing that came up as I googled granite cabs and of course even your granite looks better than any rocks we have!

monna0000Your examples are very nice. If I am ever home when it is light out, will post some wet examples of granite from my land. Preforms and slabettes waiting to be completed.

While I have a little time this morning, decided to post a cab I made of "graphic granite."
The rough came from a field trip with my rock club several years ago to the Blue Lady Mine north of Warner Springs. Chihuahua Valley, actually. The area is full of pegmatites. I sent this cab on to snowmom a couple years ago.
The photo below is not granite, but quartz and schorl (black tourmaline), also found at the Blue Lady. The way that the components of the rock are assembled, they most like form in the same way. Minerals precipitating through host rock.
This is some colorful granite, found in the Warner Springs area, at a pegmatite claim belonging to a member in the rock club.
Although it is a little course, I did make a round 1.5" cab out of it. I think I sent it to James. I was going to, anyway. If I still have it, I don't know where it is?
Will have to find the rough and make another.
