CNC for rocks hum don't recall anything for rocks specific. I suppose you could use any machine and diamond tooling. By inexpensive what do you mean inexpensive for CNC because none that I know of are inexpensive at least good ones. What size are you thinking there are kits out there I'll look around a bit to see what is available.

Computer numerical control, I think. Draw on a computer screen, load program into machine. Push the start button and the machine makes what ever does not look like the drawing go away.

I would be careful about using a laser cnc on rocks. Some would probably explode due to the rapid heating. I take it you want to engrave and not shape cabs with it?

im looking for an inexpensive cnc machiene for rocks if anyone knows where to get a good one. I don't think such an animal exists. CNC machines are not inexpensive to buy, nor are they cheap to maintain. The first "C" in CNC stands for computer, and those can be trouble. Recently, the old CNC Chevalier in our garage took a dump on us, it was dead in the water. You can pay someone the big bucks (per hour, plus travel time) to come take a look at it, if you have access to someone that even knows the older stuff. Our Chevalier runs an older Anilam program, the number of techs that know it are getting fewer and fewer.
If you are mechanically inclined, you can sometimes suss problems out yourself, with the help of some of the online machining forums. The problem we had was fixed by just replacing a couple fuses, after someone blew some chips (metal and circuit boards do NOT get along!) into the computer cabinet with compressed air. We did our happy dances when it started working again, lol.
Doesn't much matter what you are cutting with it. But you know diamond cutting bits by themselves are going to be expensive, right?
I wish you luck with that.
mrrockpicker runs a HAAS CNC machine 40 hours a week for someone else, so is quite familiar with them. He works for a company that makes wheels, brakes, and landing gear systems for private aircraft (i.e., Cessna, Beechcraft, etc.). The parts he makes there are mostly made out of aluminum, but also some magnesium and other metals. Yes, he brings lots of chips and shavings home with him, mostly on his clothing. At home, he also cuts steel, and those sharp little shavings get everywhere.

Glenn, what task do you want this machine to do? Define that and help may be forthcoming.

Glen here maybe an idea one should be able to attach a dremel or fordome type tool preferably something with variable speed there may actually be such an attachment. It wouldn't be programmable and you would have to be using something of fairly uniform thickness and I bet a used one could be had relatively inexpensively. Remember keep in perspective that you aren't producing something for NASA so precision is a very relative thing.

mostly looking to engrave designs, games, pictures, text and what not into rocks an possibly other stuff. Ive been watching videos on laser cnc machienes engrave agates, rocks, glass and much more. relatively simple to use.. at least i wouldn't have problems. bdget i'm looking at is around 1500 tops for what im wanting to do, the other more inexpensive models wont do what i want nor last too long.

Any reason you don't want to use a sandblaster & stencil cutter instead?

Any reason you don't want to use a sandblaster & stencil cutter instead? Large compressor, a grit blasting kit from harbor freight and a crikut are way less than $1500 as well. Well under budget. Good call.

Good call. Why not a desktop waterjet machine? They also have desktop lasers too for such tasks. Some are good and some are not. Gotta do some research Glenn

So I googled again! Wazer is the only desktop size water jet I can find. It's $4000+. If you know of another, please advise here. I'm totally into a sub $2000 waterjet

I'm totally into a sub $2000 waterjet same although thats what the desktop laser machiene is, both cnc machines, i'd rather go water if i could but laser is cheaper lol, it cant do very deep engravings on stone / glass but good for what i want. it cuts through other stuff though. for just wood stuff there are far cheaper plug n play ones for $500 and under but not strong enough for glass / rock.

im looking for an inexpensive cnc machiene for rocks if anyone knows where to get a good one. Check the dental supplies, went to the dentist last year while I was on the road and they milled my crown in house in about a half an hour. Should work for stone.
