Hello,
I am a faculty at Montana Tech in Butte MT. Weirdly I dont teach engineering or geology, I just love collecting rocks. Originally I am from the east coast and I have been collecting rocks since I was a kid. If you have any questions about MT ID or WA please feel free to ask.
Cheers

Do you do any more than just collect? When will Yellowstone cut loose again?

Years ago, when my Dad was elk hunting in Montana he came to a basin where his compasses went wonky. He was wondering if it was a meteorite impact crater? Heard anything about that?

I teach business, law, and accounting. Other than collecting I am working on building my own lapidary equipment. I have already built a tumbler and I am working on some other stuff. In general I would like to network with people in the region.
Also, to answer the question about compasses I know that about 50 miles from Butte up by Helena there is a magnetite mine. My guess is that if anything would mess with a compass it would be that.
