Botswana Goals!! Beautiful!! Thanks- Most of my bots have seen a grinder and saw during the tumbler process. Speeds things up and eliminates some of the problems you are having with fractures. Chuck

Nice batch, Chuck. I love them all, but I think some got shortchanged by being labeled “filler rocks”. Looks like a very nice Montana on the left side of that group.

Yeah I just got lazy taking photos. There is some Missouri lace agate, bloodstone, Montana agate, botswana agate, goldstone, crazy lace agate and others in that last photo.

Chuck First, beautiful batch Chuck. Botswana's are off the chart. On a side note, when I transfer the iPad photos to flickr I loose light. Photo goes darker for some reason. So I have bee increasing the light using the iPad photo shop controls before firing the photo to flickr. Also, you can send the camera into focusing on the subject instead of the background by simply tapping on the screen.(not that you have that problem) The other thing that I noticed was the color of the background or more accurately the percentage of brightness in the background effects the white balance/makes wash. as if too much back ground contrast negatively effects the rocks in the photo. I started covering the white back ground with 50% rocks. Sent your photo back to Mac and back, only added light. But if there was not such a high percentage white background in original the photos would have had more color to work with: Drummond Island Rocks

I have photo editors and can do batch processing and such. To be honest taking and posting pictures is a chore at times so I try hard to minimize the amount of time spent doing it. My last few posts have just been tests using the iphone 7 plus with the extra 2X optical zoom. The convenience is nice but quality may still suffer vs the normal camera. All of the pictures in this post are straight from the phone with no cropping or adjustments. Not sure if you Ipad works the same or not but on the Iphone when you click the screen for where you want to focus it also brings up a slider bar right then to adjust the brightness of the photo on the fly. On a side note I phone 7 plus and newer models can also shoot in RAW format. brightness adjustment on the fly while taking photo Chuck

Add RAW, thanks for the heads up. The iPad is ridiculously simple in that full size photo editing can be done in hand and easily, then the share option. However that darn pad is picky about background, and there is a screen tap sequence that alters the sensor for the white balance. All said, the lens coupled with the processor can take some serious photos with the large screen and sensitive ccd.

There are some APPS that cost money that are way better then the free camera software apple provides. The hardware supports RAW but I think right now the paid APPS are the only way to utilize it. Chuck I have only used crop and light adjustment. Rarely the color adjust. And in all cases very minimal adjustments except the crop. Photos were too good to require much adjustment. Never used the 'zoom in'. So it surprises me that an external app would be required except for RAW. I doubt you need RAW on our small hobby photos. Unless you are cropping heavily.

That was a serious feature on pro cameras not too long ago. 2 lenses on one device is a big advancement, seeing more lens attachments in the near future, makes too much sense. Never seen maul lenses till you posted yours.

Halide has gotten a lot of really good review in the Apple press. It allows manual adjustment of a lot of things and can save in the RAW format. It leaves a lot of stuff out and focuses on doing a few things well. One thing that I wis was included is a timer to eliminate jiggling the camera when snapping a picture, but it’s probably not that big of a deal. I can’t say that my rock pictures were better when using it, but that’s probably due to user error.

I use the 3 second timer so the phone does not move when I press the button. On my Ipad and Iphone the 3 second timer also automatically takes a 10 photo burst. I need to see if that can be turned off. Chuck
