I made something for for my wife for Valentine's Day. One is for my daughter and I don't know where the other one is going. These aren't perfect. They have some flat spots and other imperfections, but I think they turned out pretty good for a first try. I domed both the front and the back.

hearts are never perfect that what makes rock'n! IMO ha ha
those are really fine and want to know how tedious it was to drill the hole before of after cutting? excellent!

I'm glad to have your seal of approval. You're the heart expert! I drilled first. It's Kona dolomite, so drilling was quick and easy.

I like the free form look of them Jugglerguy . The stones are neat too. Is that Kona Dolomite? (Taking a wild guess ) ETA: I see we were typing about the same time again. Woo Hoo...I got one right.

There are two reasons for the shape. I've tried to make hearts before and had a little trouble getting the symmetry right. Making them obviously asymmetrical eliminates that problem. I also don't like the eye mounted in the indentation on the top. This also fixes that problem.

I understand the problem perfectly and by hanging from the cleave Magnifies the symmetry problem
So the offset as it own unique appeal and utility
As to my hearts-- I made them to big Another problem of symmetry I hope to re-valuate & master the design more Little rock design
If you figure out a way to drill fast & efficient Into harder stone-- that design will fly! Especially with the shine you produce

Especially with the shine you produce I drill about two hundred pudding stone beads each year for a friend. I use the cheap 1 mm bits from Kingsley. I get somewhere between 0 and 12 holes per bit on pudding stone. Last year, he threw in some Lakers to be drilled. I managed to drill a couple, but it was more like two bits per hole. I also broke two or three in half trying to drill them, a problem I don't have with pudding stone. I was able to drill these hearts without much water. I had the Dremel in it's drill press, but I just raised the rock to the drill bit. I'd dip the stone in water often, but didn't have it submerged like I usually do. I didn't know how else to see my work clearly while hand holding the rock. If I do many more of these, or do them in harder rock, I'll have to make some sort of clamp to hold them still under water.

yep. I never really did experiment with drilling intuitively I just knew it was going to be problematic, expensive, time consuming and I wanted to make hearts that hang fast & quick so I cam up w/the rock'n idea I still believe it as a place in heart technology hopefully I can get back to it and make it lapidary standard
there was the other fellow on RTH that was Heart Master from Utah-Steve miss him I--'m sure he's off caving or otherwise doing well
anyway Rob rocking hearts days are yet to be... best Ed

Those turned out really nice Rob. The pieces of Kona you picked were worthy of the project too. I have not given Kona much thought lately but I may incorporate a piece or two into my next batch of soft rock tumbles.

It's waiting in line for a barrel now.

Those came out extremely nice. Love the shapes. How did you do it, a cabbing machine? I didn't know you cabbed. Those a pretty difficult to do. Color me impressed!
