Need some help. Has anyone here ever made ear plug style earrings? They are sort of Goth style. KNow that the ear lobe hole varies from person to person, so think I will need to wait until I know the appropriate diameter.
Anyway, met someone today who wears this style. He has one of fossil bone, he got long ago. Another he made from a bone of a beloved pet. He asked if I had any vintage coral/turquoise and if I could make him some earrings. He is also open to earrings made from other stones.
All he told me about size is that they are sort of bone shaped.
So, I looked through my vintage, untreated Sleeping Beauty. Found a couple of pieces I think would work. This stuff is soft, and I can use my files to shape it. Found a few pieces of coral, which are a natural dog bone shape, sort of.
He was also open to any crystals. Have clear and snowflake quartz for that. Just will take a long time to file down and polish the center space.
Also mentioned Hematite, but there is no way I could cost effectively file down Hematite.
I will be receiving his email address shortly, so I can send photos of the materials I selected.
Any pointers?

Ms. Fernwood, it's funny you mention this. I got a new tattoo Monday and was tossing the idea out of horse trading some stone plugs for tattoo work. He was very interested. There is some limited info on here from what I found. I think MsAli is thinking of Roger & also broseph82 makes plugs (or did, he hasn't posted any in a while) He's got a thread on here somewhere about it. Good luck!

Nate, here's a link from - can you believe it? - more than five years ago - forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/57791?page=1 about making ear plugs (gauges) and there are three more links I posted in that thread. Photobucket's greed has pretty well decimated the photos, but still a lot of info and "how to's" to read. Actually, on my tablet, if I hold down on the PB 3rd party hosting ransom notice, then select view image, the image will still show. Somewhat tedious, but you can still see the pics. Oh, and I found Jimi's broseph82 more recent thread from only three years ago forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/69557/plugs. That's a good 'un! And still plenty of pics.

Thanks for the links. Great info. That will help. His holes are much smaller and the plugs are the bone/hourglass shape. Shouldn't be too hard.

Hadn't followed Jimi thread, wasn't really interested in plugs. But I must say pretty darn awesome. Thanks for sharing.

I do indeed still make them ( www.instagram.com/plugsonplugs ). I post here and there, mostly read and enjoy everyone else's posts. Lots of personal stuff going on at home right now. Thanks for thinking of me!

Hi, thanks for the link. Totally uncharted territory for me here, but think I can do it.
