Because of his ability to purchase wholesale frit and put clear cover coats on both sides I could not have made those if I wanted to for less than materials alone. It is a bargain. Retail material costs alone would have way surpassed the cost. Almost the clear overcoat alone much less the frit. Young guy w/lots of talent, guessing well known artists would have not even done it. Found a valuable resource. He warned me prices were subject to go up. I believe he is becoming a well known artist. Is that Nate? Yes. He is up and coming. His sculptures easily rival the finest. More than. He just doesn't quite have that big name thing yet. He is young. He liked it when I broke one of the globes to see the layers. He was curious of the thickness, consistency of thickness and color layer placement. He was not off 1/2 of a millimeter on the three layers. We did a thin, medium and heavy thickness globe. One of his associates was teaching classes at the next kiln over. They were perplexed by the destruction of the globe lol. He will let me bring my own custom blended frit mix too however his frit packages will be hard to beat. Did sample melts on his stuff last night. anxious to open kiln this morn.

I am gobsmacked at those colors and patterns! Anxiously awaiting pictures from out of the kiln.

I was not sure if he wanted me clicking off photos. In the kiln area or the studio so it never came up. Thanks for checking at flickr. You would be the only professional photographer looking at my flickr pages and probably only for charity in my case. Thanks Randy. Oh, you are talking about the kiln melt this morning - duh. It added up to 4 pounds 10 ounces of larger Bo Ho sized pendants, test melts of oversea vases, and a big failure on a few of these hand blown globe shards.. Had the temp to hot, made all those confetti colors mix to dog crap brown. Kinda guessed. Need to dial temp down to just flatten them.(slump them) flickr for you Randy:

You are a prolific photographer. That's an interesting and diverse Flickr archive you've got over there. Fun to look at. I had already seen that pic on Flickr, before you got it up here. That's where you go for the breaking news.

This is just to cool I get legs and tentacles from Nate's octopus' regularly in his scraps. The leg ends are often flesh tone color and look exactly like a rat's tail of which I have gotten in trouble for strategically placing them where they would scare people. Octopus and some very frightening alien forms in his creation room. This surprised me, his young worker said he is a champion break dancer. So out of place, never seen that one coming.

That's where you go for the breaking news. Have you snaked a wire through the forest from Kentucky ? The glass has really put the camera to work. There is so many variables. I have to take photos to keep up with the results of melting so many things. Especially pendants where you may have 150 individual melts at one time. So many individual melts is speeding up the learning curve. The glass folks are very conventional and don't experiment. I found that most glass from China and Italy is compatible with US blown glass. Darker glass saw 1500F, brighter saw 1450F. 1425 to 1500 F is critical. The 1500F melted the adjacent colors together making the drab colors.

Very. If you like glass melts then be prepared to be gobsmacked over and over. If globes from the glass blower become a regular purchase item the show will get way better than my brews. The patterns he lays down can cost X5 more for the same size globe, such as melting line stringers on them.

Great man to work with. Rats are cute and so are mice. Not all ladies freak out about rodents. Not many creatures freak me out. Leeches but am at the age where dad won't bait my hook anymore so I just don't use them. Yucky little things
