My youngest is graduating high school on Saturday and he has been asking when I'll make him a ring. So I thought I would give it a try. This is not an original design, but copied from something I saw on Etsy. 20g sterling sheet 18g square sterling wire 18g square rose gold 14/20 wire 21g round sterling wire formed into a 5 strand braid Posting cell phone pictures through TapTalk, so not easy to give step by step, but you get the idea. Once LOS and final Zam shine I couldn't get a picture that showed the rose gold color, but it's there. Overall I'm very proud of this ring. I hope my son likes it! Thanks for looking.

Very nice! Great guy ring. I'm sure he'll love it forever. My grandson is graduating and wants something with damascus steel. He really took a liking to it- so I know what I'll be doing soon.

Wonderful ring! My wife saw me looking at it and immediately told me that that I should make one for our son, but then she poked me in the back and said, "... or for me!!" Very cool.
Did you stamp the message or freehand it with a bur? Either way it's really nice!

That is going to be a great gift. Your attention to detail really shows in that piece. Lucky kid!
PS - Thanks for the informative write up too.

I don't have good penmanship so using a bur is out of the question.

Ann, that's really great. I'm not a ring wearer, but if I was, that's a design I'd love to own. Very nice.

Thank you for the kind comments MsAli , rockjunquie , Drummond Island Rocks , drocknut , aDave , vegasjames , and fernwood ! I really enjoyed making this one. This is the first piece that I have turned out on my own, that from start to finish I didn't have to scrap any component or do a major redo. Still took me just under 8 hours, but every piece gets a little easier.

That is a ring you put your heart and soul into and it shows! Your son will cherish that piece forever. Thanks for putting up your process. It's lovely.

Beautiful. Oddly, I watched a youtube video yesterday showing how to make this exact ring. The guy did extensive filing across the whole piece to make it smoother and flatter.

I wish I had seen that video before I started. I didn't file the top at all. I just kept working the braid until I had it the right height, before I formed it into a circle. filing would have been easier. Can you post a link to the video please?

Not sure if it's the exact one that was mentioned above, but he's filing his ring to finish it. He also has other vids if this isn't it...they're listed in this video description. If you want me to embed the video, just let me know. I didn't want to take up space in your thread. Ring Video
