I spent many years working with several who had mild to moderate Autism. The guys with Autism diagnosis were amazing. Most loved rocks. They also had excellent memory. I would show them a rock, tell them the name. Months, even years later, I would bring in one that was the same type of rock. All could tell me the name, no problem. Many with cognitive challenges also loved the rocks. I used them as worry stones to relieve stress and violence. Some would jst look at them and rub for hours. Rocks were a great addition to my proactive, preventative approach to therapy.

Very cool. The therapeutic side is something I hadn't really thought about but very worthwhile indeed. Thank you for sharing a bit, I really do appreciate it. Can't wait get up and going. Between Sophia's buddies at Weightlifting, T ball and the DS group there will be tons of kids with all different backgrounds to help and include. Local MLB ballplayer just built a ball field/park for kids with different abilities and I'd love to set up and have some tumbles for them to pick a favorite and maybe a geode station for special events. So much to do.

Sophia has an incredible memory. She memorizes songs and TV shows. Learning rock types with me now.

Awesome! Sounds like you are well on your way to not only enhancing the lives of others, but with community connections, which are so important.

I'm located in Warner Robins GA. I don't know many spots around here to gather agate but I have found Savannah River Agate. I was thinking about going to get some more if you are interested.

As far as sales to the general public color and contrasts are everything. Sophia already likes those things, so she should do well. PM me as well, we're doing some pre retirement downsizing and would love to share.

I put together a goodie box of mostly self SoCal stuff along with a list saying what is what. Hopefully it has arrived by now. One of the fun parts of the hobby is what is "common material" to collect in one part of the country may be unheard of a few states away. I guess it is not economical to take "common" material on the road. Best wishes on your venture.

We opened the box this morning and Sophia will use the types of rock as her spelling words next week. We are very much into "local" so that is awesome. Thank you so much for the material. The slab of regency rose was Sophia's favorite and very generous of you. She also liked the palm as we didn't have any of that before. I'm back to work so changing the feed motor on our 10" saw this weekend coming and putting up a wall for the rock shop in the garage in the next week or two. Sophia has to be "comfortable" she says. Lol. Thank you again for your generosity. All will be used and some will go to show her friends at weightlifting this week too. Best Wishes, Sophia and Jason

What an awesome thing to do, can't help wanting to play a small role in your endeavor. I do mentoring with at risk teens and am amazed how rocks can grab a child's interest. It truly creates a life long passion. (I had a mentor at 14 and he turned my life around by teaching me rewards are earned and seldom given) Please PM an address to me and I will send you a box with small rough Petrified wood, Jasper and Agates. If I can find my Petoskey bucket, will include some of them also. I have the utmost respect for what you are doing.

You folks constantly bless us with your generosity. Please read this excerpt from our Facebook Page. Rockhounds from our favorite Rockhound site, Rock Tumbling Hobby have sent us several boxes of goodies over the last couple months. We are so thankful and appreciative of all the kind words, generous goodies and just their overall support in our new adventure. I asked for some guidance in tumbling rocks for our Gembugs and guess what someone sent from their own personal collection....Just in awe of the generosity of the rockhound community. Gem bugs and Gem pals here we come Rest assured Sophia will be busy picking the perfect rocks for your special creations.
