I want to make a spinner bangle bracelet. What do you use to flare the edges? My biggest dapping ball is too small. Would be good if both edges could be flared at once.
I see Jeff Fulkerson has invented such a device, but there must be a less expensive way to get the same or similar result. Thanks.

Pat I have never made one, but I think you would need to use a sinusoidal stake to do what you want to do if you don't use Jeff Fulkerson's tool. The stakes are more expensive than his tool, but here's a video on how to make your own stake out of hard wood if you have the patience to do it. Good luck!

When I make my spinner rings I just like you mentioned use a dapping ball. I would just find something round enough like a ball hitch on a car. I believe a 2 5/16 in ball hitch has a circumference of 7 " plus, what is the diameter of your bracelet? I just looked at Jeffs tool, if you have a friend with a lathe it could be made out of oak or any hard wood pretty easily.

toiv0Are trailer hitches the exact measurement given? If so, I think my 2 5/16”. ID diameter bracelet would need to be a little smaller, so it wouldn’t slip past the equator/belly/halfway mark of the trailer hitch. OR add something to the hitch to make it a little bigger. OPINION? Thanks.

I have one and will try it. Also have a swage block. Will try that, too. Thanks for the suggestion. When I figure out how to get photos on here again since Flickr's latest bad idea, I’ll do it!

OPINION? Thanks. I am not sure but I believe the measurement is correct. I am not sure if they make a bigger ball hitch, I looked on line and didn't see one. I just thought of the top of a medical oxygen bottle. I see them for sale or give away. You would have to saw off the neck for sure and part of the bottle if its a larger bottle a smaller bottle just wack the bottom. I have about 10 of them laying around. Maybe jamesp has an idea...he likes to frequent salvage yards. As far as the size you would have to find a bangle or make a prototype with just copper wire to see if it fits over your wrist. Then see if it slips over the hitch.

I ordered Jeff Fulkerson's spinner bracelet tool. $49 plus tax plus shipping =$64.16. Decided it was better than snooping all around town and inventive friends doing the same. I appreciate all the suggestions.

Pat, please let us know how the tool works. Seems it would be faster and easier than using stakes.

hummingbirdstones yesterday, we used a swage block and a delrin hammer (I forget the hammer style name). Results were rather primitive.

Yes, I have it and set it up in a vise. I think it will work fine. Before I use it, I am going to texture the metal. Hmmm, could also do a dry run on a plain strip. I'll post when I do it. Not today : ) toiv0

Are the two disks curved on the facing sides?
Did you make it?

What angle are those turned to? Those would be simple to turn on one of the lathes at work, the ring sized ones I could do on my little lathe at home. The pieces in your pic aren't even polished like I would expect a decent quality jewelers tool to be. Also I would scrap the cheap coarse thread grade 5 bolt and nut for a same diameter fine thread grade 8 bolt. The fine thread will give you better control over the process with less force required on the wrench.

RockoonzFor the ring size spinners, the dapping punches in most dapping block sets work well. The problem was for bangle bracelet size.

I was planning on replacing the bolt, not sure of the angle, have nothing to measure it with and my math is not so good looking. I agree also on the polish but you get what you pay for.(10 bucks), I have been using dapping punches but wanted to be more consistent. Would like a larger bracelet one eventually.
