Here are some photos I took over the past two weeks from our camping trip to Edisto Island SC. I met and talked to a lucky lady who was visiting from Boone, NC. First three photos are of a Clovis point she found that had washed out on the beach. Can't tell you what a thrill it was to hold a recently found 10 to 12 thousand year old fluted point in my hand and examine it. I believe it was made from coastal plain chert from the Savannah River area but it needs to be checked out by an archaeologist to determine that. It has heavy patina and coloration from being in the coastal mud/soil for a long period of time. The first thing I did was tap the point on one of my teeth to see if it was rock or a lithic casting. Other photos are of some Christmas beach art that shows up on the state park beach every year. This time we met the young lady laying down the shells. Photos of calcite crystals inside of some fossil whelk, olive and oyster shells that I found. Rick B Here's an unusual tooth find I made at Edisto Island SC in early 2017. A couple of shark teeth with it for comparison. I always look for fossils and artifacts when there and have found native american pottery and points. I showed this tooth (roots have tumbled off in the surf) to a local paleontologist and he said it was from a primate and that (we) were the only primates there. Showed it to my dentist and he confirmed it as an L7 from a young adult. It's black due to heavy mineralization as the shark teeth are. It's nice to know that stuff is still out there! A guy I used to know found a fluted paleo point at Myrtle Beach in the early 1960s.

The series of major storms we've been having have eroded the coastline exposing fossils and artifacts. Along the ocean side of a Charleston SC barrier island Megalodon teeth are been found as a bank erodes. Rick B
