Sorry to see your Dremel broke Ali. Hopefully they stand behind it. I know they originated in Wisconsin, wonder if they are still...
You really got some beautiful fire in that agate! Congratulations!

Ali, I'm glad you found purple in there. That's worth a little skin, right?
When you get the flex-shaft, try this for the foot pedal. Find something same height or higher than the foot pedal. Then you can rest the ball of your foot on and use your heel to regulate the variable speed pedal. You get a helluva lot better control of the speed that way and is less tiring.
Then get a 4x4 block - or whatever - and use some velcro to strap that handpiece to it so you can use both hands on the stone. If you have a small vacuum-base vises even better to hold the handpiece. HF sells those too. Just pad the jaws to not squish the handpiece.

Has anyone tried using tape to protect areas on a stone that you don't want to accidently brush against while sanding/carving?

Has anyone tried using tape to protect areas on a stone that you don't want to accidently brush against while sanding/carving? I was thinking of that I have a piece that I was going to re-work, but there is a section I dont want to touch Thats why I need my Dremel or something to use. It was too hard on the arbor to avoid it

Nice going! You found color! As I mentioned to you in my PM, learning to cut fire agate takes time and a lot of patience. And you'll have to kiss a bunch of frogs before you find that handsome prince. Learning how to interpret the fire planes and how they lie in any given piece of rough becomes a little easier with experience. Some stones are fairly predictable; others are like I said in my article: scrambled quartz. Keep at it. You're doing great.

unclesoska , easy-peasy. Just click on my website link in one of my posts and scroll down on the Home Page to "Fire Agate: A Cutter's Guide." It's an old piece I wrote long ago and needs much updating and more detail but it covers some basics that might be helpful. Let me know if it helps.

Got my replacement and so far this model is a whole lot easier to use Fire agate #2 has a layer of caked mud on the bottom that I'm slowly peeling off
