Having gotten down a learned a bit about thundereggs, made me marvel at a trip my family had made in the late sixties. I am now sure it was not one of the 2 listed sites for finding thundereggs in Colorado. We lived in the Denver area at the time and I remember Durango. We were a long ways in on a 4 wheel drive road (driving a falcon station wagon). The station wagon was loaded with a family of 5 and camping supplies. On the way out, hit the oil pan on a rock and split it. Dad had to walk out and get it fixed and get new oil. A ranger gave him a ride back and his comment was how the hell did you get that up here!
We picked up a couple of buckets full of thundereggs off of the surface of the ground. That means to me the area had seen little to no pressure as far as hunting goes. Between that and remembering Durango, which would have been after the 2 locations that are written about then and now I am certain we were somewhere else. I can't compare much on the roads since they have changed so much in the last 50 years.

Need to check some old Colorado Rock Guide books I have. If they are in the Books chances are they have been picked over since you were there. Henry
