Every time a new "driver assist" technology comes out, Consumer Reports recommends it be standard on all cars, ignoring the fact that it is pricing the average consumer out of being able to have a new car, and the poorer consumer from being able to repair his/her car.
I don't want a car deciding where in the lane I should be. I may want to avoid a pothole or a dead skunk, for example. I may be keeping an eye on the guy in the other lane and deciding he needs more room. Besides which, many of the roads I drive on have no white lines or even no lines at all.
When I drive my car, I actually drive it. I don't text, talk on the phone, make videos, comb my hair, put on makeup, or any other nonsense. I don't even use cruise control. I realize I am in the minority now and that most "drivers" are little more than passengers, but I look at all this new technology and I think--
"Just more to go wrong."

Not only are the new technologies driving the prices of cars up, it is also driving the cost of repairs, especially collision repairs, out the roof. The repair facility has to have a very large clear space available to be able to align many of the sensors. What used to be a $500 fender bender may now be $4000.

I want to drive my car. Don’t want my car to drive me!
Like my dependable 2000 Honda CRV. Has an RTH sticker on window. Front and back
Heater works. AC works. Clock works. Music works. Knows where it is going. Most of the time. 😄

...and if you think it’s only Tesla . . . States are already installing sensors down highways that track cell phones (on or off) as they go down the road. As cars include more "connected" features, the same can be used to track individual vehicles. Why? Probably for future "road usage" taxes and tolls, but you are being watched for sure. OK for now, but once paired with AI, I'm not. Time to binge-watch Person of Interest.

When I posted this last night, I was picturing one of those NYC squeegee guys wanding all the info off the car . . . and demanding a tip for it. : )

I drove dealer loaner a few weeks ago and found all the electronics to be very distracting. the only thing I really liked was the blind spot warning system. The worst was the orange light telling me to keep both hands on the steering wheel.

In the 2020 model year, most new cars sold in the United States will come with built-in Internet connections, including 100 percent of Fords, GMs and BMWs and all but one model Toyota and Volkswagen. (This independent cellular service is often included free or sold as an add-on.) Cars are becoming smartphones on wheels, sending and receiving data from apps, insurance firms and pretty much wherever their makers want.
What does your car know about you? We hacked a Chevy to find out.

I’m not a fan of all this driver assist and self driving car technology. If there’s one thing that we’re proud of here in New Jersey, is having the ability to shout many profanities out the window, while giving some dumb ass the finger. It just won’t be the same doing so to someone’s car and not the driver himself. Though I guess I could get into a shouting match with the owner for buying such a piece of shit to begin with lol.

One of my customers just told me yesterday that he spent $2200 to replace the windshield on his new Toyota. This shit is going way too far. I'm definitely not a fan of my customers having to pay that for something that is usually less than $250... Now they can't afford to maintain it mechanically

Being a programmer by education, I am not sure I like the idea of self driving cars. For example, what will it do when offered two bad choices? For example, hit a parked truck and kill the passengers or avoid the truck and hit a motorcycle?
