Hello everyone! First post here, though I have been lurking all over the forums ever since Christmas when I bought my daughter a rock tumbler. Have always been fascinated by rocks and rarely leave behind any unique rocks I see. But never have done anything with the rocks until now. Needless to say, my lack of patience has pushed me into purchasing lots of diamond dremel bits, parts to build homemade tumbler as well as a cheap wet tile saw! all after Christmas!Realized very early on that I'm way out of my league here but putting in the work to get better end results and more knowledge overall. Just want t say thanks for everyone sharing so much of their time and knowledge here for the rest of us to use. Hopefully can contribute some knowledge myself one day!

Welcome to the asylum. I first got on this site researching Fairburn agates. Now I have two tumblers, cut rocks I collect with my tile saw every chance I get and have started attempting to make cabs with my dremel. Honestly, there's no better place for you to be. And no better people!

Thanks guys. Yeah miket, I came here for little more in depth I fo about tumbling and now all my free time is spent cutting open stones, polishing with dremel and collecting rocks! My daughter now believe she rock tumbler she received for Christmas I bought for myself more than for her. Lol and yes from what I've read this group of people seem to be something special.
Thanks from houston tx stoneman!

Thank you everyone for warm welcome. Man all from areas with lots of rockhounding opportunities! I'm jealous! Not alot around houston aside from the gravel beds of san jacinto river. But I'm better off right now working with lesser quality stuff until I fig out what the heck I'm doing haha

Houston area myself. There's some pretty nice material in the San Jacinto gravel beds. Collected there once and was pleased with what I found. The best thing about most of the material there is that it's river tumbled and makes for very nice rocks for the tumbler, already nicely rounded.
The Clear Lake Gem and Mineral Show is tomorrow and and Sun at the Pasadena Convention Center. I will be there in a booth, "Minerals at the Pavilion", right next to the hands on area for the kids.

Greetings from Vermont. Here we have rocks... lots and lots of rocks. And they are all grey or green.
