Things are firming up and I am going to drive my mother to California in April. I am planning on rock hounding in the Barstow area on April 8th and 9th. I would love it if someone would join up with me and show me some neat places. I know there are several good areas in the vicinity.

I won't be able to make it down but I highly recommend the Rockhound Barstow book. Comes with a Google Maps pin location map link. Have fun! Edited: removed some unverified information

I don't know if I can commit just yet. My back has acted up, and it's taking longer than I expected for it to start getting better. Are you going to be driving a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle? Plus, I don't know how good of a guide I'd be since the only place I really know out there is Lavic. NRG socalagatehound Bluesky78987

Edited: removed some unverified information Ditto........that little book is great and has GPS link updates......I've used it three times now........will get you pretty close to the sites.......but beware, with all of the weather we have had out here lately, even the Lavic location will be if'y without a high clearance vehicle...........lot's of wash-outs and slides.........If one doesn't mind hiking some distances, you can still get into the popular sites.....be prepared for wind and chill coming off the nearby mtn's.

Scott NRG, if you end up communicating with fishnpinball to set up an itinerary, it might be helpful to post it here. That might give folks an idea of what areas might be visited on a given day, as well as the target material(s) at those spots.

Sorry I haven't jumped in on this earlier..... I was in the Cadys....lol. Those dates are right after the Vista Show weekend, but I'll probably go to that on Friday. And I have to take a rockhounding buddy to the airport right in there, too. And.... my 4x4 is a little broke right now, but should be fixed next week. I'll know for sure the closer we get.

Odd, I bought the Barstow book today before heading out.
Just pulled in from L@vic today, actually. Did a lot of prospecting that didn't turn out much. Ended up close to traditional L@vic, and lucked out on some nice brecciated Jasper.
Would be interested in seeing what is North of the RR tracks, close to Cady though.
