I've been wanting to go to Earnst Quarries for awhile (Sharktooth Hill), near Bakersfield. sharktoothhillproperty.com/www.facebook.com/ErnstQuarries/I was just looking at it and realized "Hey, this would be a great RTH group trip." Kids would love it, parents would love it . . . I've never been, but apparently you can find fossilized shark's teeth very easily, and sometimes if one is lucky, a Megalodon tooth. Looks like there are weekend days in May and June open. After that it gets too hot. I think it would just be a one day thing, although maybe it could be combined with another adventure up that way? Any interest?

A buddy of mine from here in Oregon was down there a few times... Other great places to hound in that area also.. He said you earn what you find on that trip... His were all small teeth, but he had a blast... Also brought me some prehistoric bird bones and etc...
