Some quick pics as Junior is hoarding the rocks in preparation for his Arts & Crafts Fair. Had to "steal" a handful to get them documented. The Tree Agate undercut very badly on some pieces but took a nice shine on the parts that didn't. I do love the variety it offers- from the darkest greens and brightest whites to the more subtle shades. It is funny how quickly your standards can evolve. While we are happy with the results that we have had, we have upped the ante as of a couple of weeks ago. He is under a bit of a time crunch now as he wants enough finished stones for various things for the fair in a month. We are getting things pretty well dialed in with our equipment and methods but would like to try a few more things when there is more time after the fair. Also gonna have to up our photo game to post to this site, got some great photographers here! Al

Nice looking tumbles! Can't go wrong with Botswana agate. You really can't can ya?! That last pic is pretty disappointing as in person the shine is crazy. The other pics I have of it are too shiny and you cannot see what is going on. We call that one peeling the onion. The rind started grinding off in 60/90 revealing the bands and we just kind of liked the way it looked and wondered if we could finish it off like that. Turned out very cool, AJ pulled that one out for his personal collection. Al

I like the tree agates. Do not see them tumbled that often.
Best of luck on the Science Fair project. Sounds like fun.

He's made a lot of magnets so far, going to sell bags of loose tumbles where people can fill up a drawstring bag with stones of their choice, maybe some rock "critters" and he is hoping to have some pendants finished by then. Should be really cool and stand out from what is usually offered at these events. Al

Very awesome that a school would offer something like this.

Very awesome that a school would offer something like this. It is pretty neat, they have to hold it in the high school gym because so many participate and attend. It gives the opportunity to not only make something with a dedicated purpose and a deadline but also learn about what costs go into a product and what you need to charge to recoup it. Al
