Very sad that it burned. Just saw on the news that two French billionaires are going to donate a total of 700 million toward reconstruction. French president to announce a fundraising event next week.

Some relics were saved. Many of the paintings had been moved elsewhere for the renovation. The organ is OK.
The extent of damage and lost relics/windows will surface eventually.
At least there was no loss of life in this horrible event.

I have to say, I shed a sympathy tear seeing all the Parisians so upset. It would be like our Statue of Liberty going down- maybe worse. Absolutely horrible loss.

The history that building has! Imagine Joan Of Ark was blessed in that church before her battles! Plus all the other people that we will probably never know about, but made history in their lives too..

I'll bet the new roof will be fireproof.

I just hope they don't replace the roof with a glass pyramid, like the one plopped into the courtyard at the Louvre. Sad to see anything that has survived so long destroyed, even partially.

And I have no doubt that if we somehow lost our Statue of Liberty the French would also mourn its loss since they gave to us as a gift. LibertyJames

It has been a piece of history that has always been on my bucket list to see
The stained glass that is gone, some of the art and just the history of those walls
Luckily no lives lost

I took this when I was there in the late 90's, always liked the pic. It's a special place, such a tragedy.

I am glad that some of us were lucky, and had a chance to visit Notre Dame before it was ruined. The building was a standing relic of architectural brilliance. The most beautiful cathedral and amazing display of stained glass that I've ever seen. What a terrible loss for our civilization. A shame.
