Looks like you were hunting in the Cretaceous. As far as I know from information from fellow hounders, this was the Miocene-era and Astoria and Nye Formations.. I'm still new at what formation information out west, compared to what Montana has to offer...

fossilman I will defer to your knowledge. It does look similar to the Cretaceous Coon Creek in TN. Or the Ripley in MS. Is Newport in NJ?

fossilman, looks like you had a fun Easter. I used to hound that area a lot about 25 years ago. I hope you don't mind me posting a couple of pictures from that area. Here's a death plate about the size of a sheet of plywood. I took these pix in January 2016, south of Moolack Beach. The way that area is sliding into the ocean, I doubt it's still there. I may go take a look this afternoon.

Unfortunately, I didn't make it up there yesterday. I don't know. Lost Creek was good this last Winter. With all the heavy wave action and the tides changing every 6 hours, you never know what the beach may look like.
