Last Saturday I took a couple of the grandkids hounding in the pile outside the local rock shop. Along with some lace and other interesting stones, they found these three fossilized critters:

Sweet- time with the grandkids and some cool fossils! Eh...it kept them occupied for an hour or so while I was babysitting. Ill put them to work cleaning the clay out of the cervices tonight. Hopefully they'll let Pap keep one for himself.

Horn corals?
You need to take them rock hounding with you.

Horn corals? You need to take them rock hounding with you. Yeah, my uneducated guess is horn coral. I got started into this whole stone thing because of the "pretty stones" they'd gather. Nothing to hound around here except sandstone, shale and such, although I've accumulated a collection of fossils (mostly shells, plant leaves and few crinoids) from my days as a stone mason. Might bring the 6 year old g-daughter along to Florida next month so she can scour the beaches.
