Took fishnpinball and Jax out to a local copper mine recently when he was visiting Las Vegas.
Jax had a lot of fun chasing lizards earlier in the day but it got a little hot for her later in the day so I pulled a tarp pout of the truck and made her a shade shelter.
Goodies everywhere

Give Jax a rub on the chest for me. Your trips aren't complete without her ... and lots of green/blue rocks. I can't believe they are just laying there like that.

Your Jax is the sweetest thing.
Lots of color showing there. Is that a tailings pile?
Thanks for the pics. It looks like you both found some nice rough. Someday Vince and I are going to have to have a hounding trip with you.

Looks like you all had a good time
I probably would of joined Jax under the tarp.

Nice pictures thanks for sharing!
When we're out hounding, Charley's favorite spot is under the truck...with his head resting on a water bowl lol. He's quite wimpy for a big scary looking dog lol.

There is another mine in the area I want to check out. No road to it so it looks untouched as far as recent digging. So I hope to get back out there soon and do a little exploring of that mine.
Jax says thanks for the chest rub. She gave me lots of kisses while rubbing her chest.

Yes that is a tailings pile.
Many mines in Nevada closed down for various reasons even though there was plenty of great ore left. Some closed due to government shutdowns when WWII started. The government ordered all "non-essential" mines closed to make the men working the mines available for the war. Many could not afford to reopen after the war. Others closed down in part due to the railroad pulling out making shipment of ores for processing too expensive.
I am always heading out as long as the weather is good. Just don't come out in the middle of summer like Melissa did. We were out at one of the mines for 2 days when it was hitting 108F. Pretty "ruff" on Jax. Had to use cooling towels to keep her from overheating.
These pics are from that trip:

Jax loves to go in to the cool mines. Some of them are fine but there are ones I do not want her in due to vertical shafts or ones I have not explored yet to know what is in there.
We were on one trip with the club to an area with lots of mines. And it was hot that day so Jax snuck off and went in to the mine, which was blowing out cold air. Ran in to one of the club members coming back out of the mine. He ran in to her way back in the dark of the mine. He could not see her but could hear her breathing. Sure he had to change his pants afterward no knowing what was hiding there in the dark.

I don't tolerate extreme heat myself well anymore. Even our club doesn't do field trips during the summer months because it's too dangerous with the heat and especially the older folks.
Jax sure is a trooper, but yeah, you have to make sure she doesn't get sick. Wouldn't want anything to happen to that cutie.

Piles of blue-green goodness. Jax is a sweetie. Hoping to take Jax back out there some time this week. Want to check out another mine in the area as well. Waiting for the weather reports on the news to see if there is somewhat decent weather anytime this week. Starting to get hot though and they are supposedly expecting triple digits this week.
