I found this broken stone in the forest of Effingham, New Hampshire, on the southwestern edge of the NH White Mts just near the Maine border. The overall stone is rounded like it may have been in a river, but there currently isn't any significant moving water around for at least 5 miles from where it was found. In fact, the soil is very loamy with few rocks which is unusual for NH. Being a strictly layman rock fancier I thought it might be a conglomerate, but the book description leads more to breccia. If it is breccia I wonder if this would be considered an 'erratic'. 99% of the stones I pick up for the tumbler are quartz and granite and have never seen a rock like this before. Its about the size of a softball +/- Any thoughts? Top rounded side Top again at another angle Broken side shows the inside rocks pretty well

Looks like a conglomerate to me. A variety of stones that were meshed together due to geological events.
It also appears to have some concrete type features to it.
How hard, overall?

I know there is dolostone breccia in central Vermont used as building material, and tuff breccia around Grafton, so perhaps similar material. Glaciation moved things around in some strange ways.
