I was walking the back alley yesterday and this guy was sitting in the middle of the alley along with some other rocks that somebody had thrown out for whatever reasons (I assume) ...should be nice when tumbled I'm hoping... the other rocks were boring compared to this one...

How interesting. I'd love to know the story behind it. OR, maybe someone just wanted to brighten a stranger's day.

Possibly someone was emptying an aquarium? Were the rocks that clean when you found them, aquarium rocks would probably have some algae on 'em. Smell like fish poop? Yup, free rocks are good rocks!

It does beg the question -- Why were you walking the back alley?
Nice find!

I do a lot of walking for exercise mostly...but for many years I did it also to find bottles and cans for charity...I've since given up on the charity part but my eyes are "trained" to be always scanning for treasures unknown and more recently rock hounding is in there as well. I keep a diary of sorts of all the interesting things found and things that have happened over 25+ yrs on these walks (and bicycle rides). I figure I got enough to write a book which is on my bucket list but awaits motivation And yes, the question always is "Why would someone throw this out?" Anyways all this confirms that old saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure". It's safe to say I'm addicted to walking
