This will teach me from spending a slow Sunday morning on eBay. www.ebay.com/itm/Tumbler-Barrels/223568884514?hash=item340dbe7322:g:vmUAAOSwNINdFipeSure don't need them, but at 20 bucks each and with $13.52 for shipping the whole lot... what the hell, why not.
Same size as the Thumler's 15lb barrels
Figure I'll need some new wing nuts and probably some lid gaskets. Hope the wife unit is not home when they arrive!
If you're bored, check out this eBay 24" saw listing. Interesting description write up.

When I first clicked on the link and saw the pictures I thought you were nuts, after scrolling down and reading the description I think you would have been nuts if you didn't buy them. 16 barrels of that quality for that price is amazing, especially with the minimal shipping.

Now you just need a monster tumbler to run 'em all at once. Of course you'll need to hide that puppy from your wife too.

LOL that monster tumbler someday build is so far down the road that I don't think we even reside in the same galaxy. I have 3 barrels running now (out of what - 15 or more tumblers?) and I don't even check them anymore. One barrel has not been checked/opened since February of last year. Seriously, 17 months! Don't think I've even oiled the motor. Now you just need a monster tumbler to run 'em all at once. Of course you'll need to hide that puppy from your wife too. Just can't pass up a good deal steal. There was a Make Offer on the listing, When that option is there I almost always make an offer as having that indicates that the seller will take something less than the Ask. NO way I was going to play that game here. Seller might have realized what the shipping cost entered was and changed that. Part of the reason that I hit the Buy It Now was my curiosity on how they will be shipped and the actual cost to do so. Figure there is no way shipping could possibly be under 50 bucks. Probably be more. Figure UPS or FedEx and two boxes. Will know in a week or so I guess. Will report back. Probably keep the best barrels and Craigslist the rest of them. Sell 10 for $40 ea and I've made a profit and have 6 free barrels. No way I'm shipping them just to make a couple bucks. ETA: oh, told the wife unit. Got the eyeroll and "where are you going to put them?"

Interesting description write up. Interesting, I took a gander at that ebay listing for the saw. It was a very interesting read. Adam Dean is a very well known rockhound and rock/equipment dealer in California. I have only met him once and he seemed a good fellow. Sure knows his rocks and loves them.

I ran across that Howard Hughes saw when it was first listed a ways back. Great read and a really great collector's item if you have the room ... and the money.

Kinda figured there would be more comments on the saw. That is quite the beast. Don't like the vise set up though.
Rocks in tumbler for a year and a half = all good. Played this game enough to know what's going on in that barrel without even checking. Figured it was a fun experiment. Folks often ask if you just let a barrel run long enough what is the result from the grit breaking down. I have no hope that the rocks are taking a polish, but I bet they went through all the other grit steps in one long run. Already shaped when I last checked 'em. Will report on findings - someday.
I know when I left a load to run in polish for a year that they are the shiniest rocks I ever tumbled.

bwhahahaha.... "where are you going to put them?" indeed! One box is 63 pounds and the taller one is 77 pounds. Will measure them to figure out what the UPS shipping was. Kinda thinking it was a bit more than the $13.53 that I was charged. I almost feel bad now.
UPS guy was NOT happy. (green ruler = 12")
More later, doubt I will get around to opening the boxes today - that's not on my list.

$203 to ship the two boxes UPS ground.
Hopefully the seller, being a company, gets a discount.
ouch ...

UPS shipping rates...what a crock O'! I used to ship UPS all the time through my employer because it the cost was about 25% of counter rate. And I didn't have to drive all the way across town!

I do the same thing occasionally as the price difference is astronomical. That being said, I cannot believe those boxes shipped for the quoted price, if they did congrats to the seller. Any way you slice it captbob made out like a bandit. Al
