Hi all! East Texas is not a great rock hunting location, so I don't really have any local places to look. But I knew at some point I really wanted to make the road trip over to Llano, TX and do some looking around there. My kids love to gather rocks as well, so we made it a family trip. I did end up picking up about 6 pounds of Llanite (varying qualities), tons of quartz, granite, jasper, and mica.
I even compiled a little video of our trip. I show how to get to the 2 most commons hunting grounds in the area (the river bed and the Llanite outcrop by the side of the highway).

The video is very nice and it looks like you found some really good pieces. I might also mention that topaz is also found in this area.

Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed the video! Never heard of Llanite so I looked it up and I really like the way it looks polished.

The video is very nice and it looks like you found some really good pieces. I might also mention that topaz is also found in this area. Thank you! Yes, topaz hunting out in Mason is the next on my list. Probably won't be until it's much cooler. I made the mistake of doing a spontaneous trip in July
