My partner and I have recently started rock tumbling and we bought a huge batch of mixed rough stones to tumble and polish... But now we are left with a bunch of pretty stones and no sure way to identify them. I have tried googling my heart out and have some guesses as to what they could be but I would really appreciate if somebody experienced could help me identify them Also, I thought these rocks were a type of jasper but some of their brethren are semi transparent? would that make them agates or a mixture of both? Because I read that jasper's are only opaque..? Any help would be deeply appreciated -Example of the semi transparency

Looks like a mix of jaspers and agate (carnelian agate for the red-orange pieces).

First things first... welcome to the forum steph ! Hope you like it here, lots of knowledge (and fun) to be found here. My first GUESS on the pieces in the first two photos would be definitely agate, and possibly Botswana agates. I also agree with @rocks2dust that the 3rd photo may have some carnelian agate in there. Enjoy your new tumbling hobby. It can be addictive!

You could ask who you bought them from? kinda looks like a grab bag selection of different chalcedony/agate varieties.

Thank you for all the responses! I'm also Australian and got rough stones from a lovely person in Queensland who (I think?) collects gems from mines and also imports them from over seas I did ask the lady I bought them from she said "The tumbling rough really is a mixed bag but generally includes varieties of agate, jasper, quartz, petrified wood, boulder opal etc."
Now I just need to learn which one is which! haha, this community has helped me so much in just one post (:
thank you guys

They have the same colours and the crust looks the same. Any questions about the other rocks don't be shy in asking." or if you are shy PM me. Also try the "Aussie Lapidary Forum" for more local knowledge. My user name is "Rusted" on there.
