I would like to have seen that Montana cab close up before it ever went in the tumbler to know if it was a preexisting issue or if it is undercut or impact marks caused by tumbling.

Chuck If I remember correctly, it had about a 220 finish. Not the smoothest cut. So, it could be that scratches that deep didn't come all the way out. Dunno. But, the second round did improve it. Like I said, I'm gonna throw back into the next polish.

If that were a cab on a dop stick would you expect to be able to improve it be going back to the 14,000 wheel again or would you go back to the 280 or 600 wheel? That is how I look at it. Chuck

Chuck I get your point, Sensei. Honestly, I was concentrating on getting my first tumble right and didn't even think of it like that. But, it did run in 120/220, whatever the first stage is.

"I get your point, Sensei." LOL. Love it! We all learn from one another. If not, what's the point? With all the experts here, that will actually help those less experienced in tumbling, is it any wonder that RTH won the trifecta in the rock tumbling contest this year?

Just a little payback for all the help I got from rockjunquie when I was learning to wire wrap and silversmith. What comes around goes around. Ask questions about the stuff you don't know how to do and answer questions about stuff you do know how to do. Chuck

I tumble many pounds of Montana moss agates and only use a Rotary though, one week in each Stage (seven days) 60/90 - 120/220 - 600 - A/O polish - than 24 hours in Ivory soap.... Four stages, plus Ivory soap after polish - They come out brilliant…
