It has taken insanely long to get this batch done but... We are done! This started as just a "let's see how this goes" no expectations batch. I used some really busted rock, it probably was not a good candidate for polishing but it did what I wanted it to do, teach me what can go wrong. The only nicer stuff in the batch was blood stone, dalmatian jasper, and a really odd piece that looks like an agate. There is still CO in the cracks but I'll deal with that later.

Thanks to this batch I know how to rebuild a tumbler, how to handle loss of material, what to do when the sludge seizes, how to keep cats from pulling the barrels off or unplugging the tumbler, how to restart the tumbler after yet another power outage, yeah.... The list goes on and on and on. Also really surprised any of the smoky quartz came out at all, that stuff was banged up something awful. Now to contemplate the next batch....

My first batch had its fill of mishaps and unforeseen problems. Really made me determined to get through it. Then once it was completed the new found confidence of figuring it out but with room for improvement started what has become a bit of an obsession and an addiction. Much worse to be obsessed and addicted to so no complaints here. Looking forward to your next batch!

For a first batch, I think this is a winner! My first batch didn't look nearly as good as yours do.
I really like the variety of stones you found. And especially the lighter purple ones.
I am not familiar with the dark pink / light purple one. Can you tell me its origin, and name? If you know offhand?
And thanks for sharing!

There's amythist rose quartz and a piece that was supposed to be carnealan..... That one has to be some sort of agate, it's an odd color combo for sure.

how to keep cats from pulling the barrels off or unplugging the tumbler, That sure is a learning experience - cats get into everything!
