Acquired this today as part of a bulk purchase. Some of the writing on the bag was worn off. It was collected or purchased prior to 1996. I am guessing in the Western USA, as that was where most of the items are from, but I could be wrong. If anyone recognizes this, please let me know. I think it is pretty cool. Hardness is about 6. Looking at other photos there is a different bag marked Hatchet MT, neat Hatchet NM. That bag was marked Copper/gold ore. Could this be from the same location?

There is a town of Hachita New Mexico, far southwestern corner of the state,it's in sort of a valley between several peaks. There was a lot of mining in the old days. The material could be from one of those peaks - "Hachita Mt" maybe. I also glimpsed a bag that looks like it said Cookes Peak. You need to check that one as there used to be a Carnelian Agate in the washes down from Cookes Peak. It's very difficult to find now, but in the 60's it was probably available. a Pair of the rocks pictured earlier was from Big Diggins, south and a bit west of Deming. It's been an agate producing area for years. Also be on the lookout for any Thunderegg looking rocks, Baker Ranch eggs are also found south of Deming. They can bring a good price. Henry

Henry There are several bags marked Big Diggins and Cookes Peak. I found what appears to be a 2" carnelian in one bag. Have not found any T-eggs yet, but who knows. Thanks
