The Rock Shed has more whole Turritella shells in stock. These are so fun. I ordered some a while back and was not disappointed. There were more whole shells than I thought there would be. A variety of shapes/colors, too. Some had their tips broken off. Since I was ordering other items, I had to get more of these. Children love them. I have many similar shaped shells that are not fossils. I show children the non fossil shells first. Then the Turritella. A wonderful introduction to fossils. Usually, I break one of the shells in my hand to show how soft they are. Then give a Turritella to a child and ask them to break it. Explain why they cannot break it with their hands. For me, this is a cost effective way to explain fossils to children. How when shells, wood, plants or bones become fossils their soft characteristics are changed into rock like material. All children are usually given a Turritella, which they love. www.therockshed.com/crushed/turritella.jpgwww.therockshed.com/crushedrock1.htmlThe Turritella is towards the bottom, page 2 of crushed rock.
