I was a little disappointed when I saw the counter scrap pile was about 20% normal size. Then saw my friend who works there headed towards me. He had put a pile of stuff to the side for me. They have a limited supply of new material from Canada. It has copper inclusions. There are several styles with the copper. My photos do not pick up all of the copper in some of these. He also set aside some other stuff he thought I could use. Helped me load everything in car. So, here is what is now in the back of my car. Too hot today for me to unload. This is the black "Granite" with the copper flecks. Much thinner than other scraps. Comes in at 3/8" thick. They are using this as a tile veneer, as it is very expensive.

Great that they'd do that! Folks seem very attracted to copper inclusions for some reason. Not sure that I'd want soft copper in a countertop, but those should make some interesting cabs!

fernwood Since Granite is relatively porous, you might want to soak some in Copper Sulfate or Copper nitrate and see if it will take that as a dye. You can then set the dye by using baking soda for a light blue copper carbonate or try ammonia for a darker blue copper Hydroxide.

Yesterday I broke this long piece. Wrapped it in a used cat food bag. Placed on edge of front steps. One hit with a hammer and it broke almost perfect. Repeated process. This one appears to be a composite Granite. The "copper" flecks look like glass. It passed the melting and plastic smell tests. I wonder what is used for the base material?

Those are cool! Very nice of your friend to high grade their scraps for you.
