Any advice for searching/deciding on a larger saw? Covington 20 or 24" saw or equivalent? Good, bad?
I don't think old equipment is an option, searches don't come up with much of anything.
Would be a pretty large investment
Thanks for any help!

First, let me say I am not a saw guy by any stretch, but if you can locate some of the older Highland Park or Frantom saws, that would be a great find. Don't know anything about Covington, but I've read alot about the "new" Highland Park lineup (China), and there isn't alot of good stuff that I've read about them. I've tagged catmandewe who comes across alot of used stuff. Maybe he can help you out with some info, advice, or even a saw.

I wouldnt buy a new Covington saw. If you want to buy new then go with Diamond Pacific or Barranca Diamond. If you want used I have several that can be available.

I'm a newby and the only saw I've had is a Covington that I purchased new last year. I'm happy with it and I also like that Covington has excellent customer support. They are very helpful and have been there for me every time I needed it. That's important to me.

Covington has some bad reviews out there and honestly, more bad than good. I’d go Lortone or BD for a new saw or search Facebook market place for refurbished. There may not be a lot of used in the ol’ google searches but there are Lapidary equipment groups on FB that people post everyday to.

For what it's worth - I bought a new Highland Park 14" slab saw a year ago this October, with an average of 3 hours run time every single day since it got here and I haven't had even one hiccup. I probably just jinxed myself hardcore saying that...damn it! I've been mulling over picking up an 18" or 20" recently and I'll definitely go with the new HP when I stash enough away to make it happen.

We have been running a new Highland Park 10" for about 18 months. Working well so far.

I have one as well. A 16” and have had it for 4 years. It is what it is...

I guess I’ve gotten lucky on the second hand used market as I’ve gotten every thing from a ten inch to twenty four inch saws and none were over $200. Sadly the the twenty four inch hp is no longer with me but the other six or seven saws are. I do have a new Lortone at the time, that hasn’t given me any problems in the five years I’ve had it.
