Have a 24 inch saw, what are the 2 motor wheel sizes you use to get the speed right?

Have a 24 inch saw, what are the 2 motor wheel sizes you use to get the speed right? Assuming you mean pulley sizes? It depends. What is the RPM of he motor? What material are you cutting?

This was an old ho.ebuilt 1950s or so unit it had a 30a 2hp motor going from a 4 inch to a 4 inch and 12 inch feed but the motor was too large for my circuits at home so I put on my 1hp motor which couldn't spin, it has currently a 2 or 3 inch on motor and I swapped the 12inch to the heavy 12 inch pulley. Thinking I should get a lighter and smaller 10 inch pulley and maybe a larger motor pully?

Old Highland-Park, Motor 4'' saw blade arbor 10'' for the blade, and 2'' on the screw feed belt to worm gear three speed reduction 6'' x 5'' x 4'' for bull gear.
rockpickerforever nice to see the link on post. Jack. old blade slower rpm. the new mk blade rpm speed change. i run natch blade 3800 SFM - 4200 SFM. which is 600 rpm with 4'' - 10'' motor 1750 rpm.
I use over kill on motors. old fran & tom saws, 1956 24'' baldor motor.3/4 hp. i changed it to farm duty sealed. 1 hp.
!982 24 highland-park same 3/4 hp, changed to 1hp.
New motor / not the same \on continuous duty.

I don't know if you figured out what you needed to know, but here's a little bit of information.
To find your blade RPM, divide the motor RPM by (driven pulley diameter divided by the drive pulley diameter) for example;
the motor is 1740 RPM The driven pulley is 10" The Drive pulley is 4.5"
So 1740/(10/4.5)=783 RPM
To calculate surface feet per minute, multiply PI times the blade diameter times the driven shaft RPM divided by 12.
For example;
a 20" blade times PI (3.14) times the driven shaft RPM = (20 x 3.14 x 783) /12 = 4097.7 sfpm
A great source for inexpensive pulleys and belts is Surpluscenter.com. The have an online catalog and will mail you a free hard copy catalog if you want one.

well, saw cuts but oddly enough the blade binds when the rpm is in the optimal range for speed. i put the 12 inch on again, put a flightly larger pully on the feed. still super slow though but least i can cut. just have to figure how to speed up the rpm without binding.
Current blade rpm is about 420 r less

I will check my 24 and see what the blade arbor is running at tomorrow, it's dark and scary out there right now!! The only time it quit cutting was when I let the blade get dull.

I braved it today, even got fire going in my shop. cutting 5 inch Brazilian agate as I type.2.5 in pulley on motor 10 in on arbor showing a blade RPM of 460. I do not know what the feed rate is. My 24 is an old Highland Park 24 in saw. cuts great.
