Well, the 4th Halloween here in the Florida panhandle was a great success but unfortunately will be my last here. I will be moving back to my west central FL home because of work. I must say that this is the most enthusiastic and most visited neighborhood that I have ever lived in during Halloween. The subdivision has a great reputation for Halloween that draws hundreds from all over. It has been a pleasure to be a part of it for the last 4 years. The first year here, I was completely caught of guard as we were used to maybe twenty or so Trick-or-treaters. The 2nd year, I decided to add a bowl of tumbled rocks with the candy...they were told to take one. I ran out of both quickly and found out children have a hard time selecting ‘which’ rock they wanted! The 3rd year, I packed small velvet bags with tumbled stones along with the candy. This eliminated the decision making but I quickly ran out of both again. This year, I stocked up with 6 large bags of candy from Costco totaling 900 pieces. I also accumulated 300+ velvet bags of tumbled rocks. Three pieces candy and 1 bag of rocks. That should last until the last stragglers... Nope! I was out before 7 PM. I had many that commented how they looked forward to coming back each year and how much they enjoyed the previous rocks. Here are some pics of the setup, before and after.

mmmmmm.....candy, rocks, candy, rocks? At 72, I'd still pick both. Need to buy a Halloween mask for next year.

pretty awesome I had a grand total of 2 ToTs this year, and only half of them in costume. Kind of depressing.

I was visited today by a mother of a couple of the kids from the neighborhood that have been here the last 3 years on Halloween. She told me how when they got home each year how they would search through all of the candy to find their bags of rocks. She also said they were heartbroken to learn I was moving...but they wanted to continue the tradition. She asked for recommendations for tumblers, supplies, etc. Of course my first was to visit RTH!! And The Rock Shed for supplies.
I heard many of the same comments from other parents and kids on Halloween. It makes it all worth it. But now, it is time fo me to start this tradition in a new place. I leave here feeling that I may have sparked a new interest in a few young... and older folks.

That's great! Did you get any dental bills from the parents of the real little guys who tried to eat the rocks?
