This tumbled Tiger Eye is tenacious. You could say it is an attention whore. If a rock could be one.
A while back, I was gifted some tumbled stones by, arguably the world's best tumbler, Drummond Island Rocks . I asked if I could buy some as giveaways for an event. He sent me a bag of what he thought were seconds. I think of them as firsts and clearly this tiger eye thinks of itself as a first, too.
The tiger eye never made it into the pocket of some lucky kid shopping with his parent. It made him feel bad. So, he took every opportunity to make himself known.
First, my tiger eye was in a potted plant, dressing it up and showing off its stellar polish and smooth shape. Then, somehow, he made it to the picnic table to be noticed by the whole family. He sat there. Admired. Finally, someone picked up the lonely tiger eye and brought him in. "Grandma, I think you left this outside." No, I didn't LEAVE it outside. He belonged there. The tumble begged to differ, but he was taken out again where he found himself sitting on the deck. Several more times, someone noticed his bling, picked him up and brought him in, "Grandma, I think someone left this outside. "No", I said. It belongs outside. Back to the picnic table he went where his stellar presence made my grandson pick him up and put him in his pocket. Some days later, I was doing the laundry where in the bottom of the tub, what did I find, but this tenacious tumble! So, I put it on the table and told everyone about how many times it had been brought in and by how many people. I couldn't take it out again. So, he sat on the table, where everyone remarked on what a great tumble he was. Finally, I decided he needed to go back with the rest of the tumbles, but just then- he was no longer on the table- or so I thought. My daughter left from her visit, lifted her purse to carry home and LO there was my tiger eye tumble. In a flash, before I could reach it, the kitten knocked it onto the floor where it couldn't be found. A few days later, my husband went to sit down and there it was shining innocently under his feet. I didn't have the heart to banish it yet again, so there my tenacious tiger eye tumble sits on my bench as a constant reminder of perfect polishes and generous friends.
