After the new year I will be picking up a vibratory rock polisher which one should i go for? The Thumler Ultra Vibe 10 MB 4 lb Capacity Vibratory Rock Tumbler (not the industrial one) OR the LOT O Single Vibratory Rock tumbler 4 1/2 lb. Capacity and as always I'd appreciate any input about either machine You may remember I was getting info on the QT 6 and QT 66 I decided to get the QT 6 and also pick up one of the vibratory tumblers since the price difference allowed me to do so but I won't be getting the QT 6 till after Christmas~~~ALIEN

Havent used thumler vibe but hear good things about it as well. Biggest difference is going to be needing to mount the lot o to cinder blocks vs not needing to with thumler. But mounting really is not a problem. The lot o uses tiny amt of grit per load and produces great shine. Only problem I have with the lot o is keeping it fed with rocks ready to be polished. Either way u go you wont regret it. Vibe tumblers are way to go for stages 2-polish and both lot o and thumler are used by members here that produce fantastic tumbled stones.

I do like my Lot-O and it does make the process very fast, but it doesn’t have a variable control knob like my mini-sonic. I really do like to slow down the polish on softer stones like obsidian. Takes an extra day but my nerves are at ease with it compared to the lot-o which is pretty rough. Out of your list I think I’d go Lot-O

Only I’m debating on the Lot-O or the UV-10 Industrial 10 pound capacity. Hoping to have one in time when winter passes. I’d also be interested to hear anyone’s opinion in the difference in loudness between the two.

And I have learned of TWO more vibratory tumblers to add to the list although they are both plastic a product I'm not very confident in when it comes to wear (I have a thumler that has a plastic lid that constantly gets a hole in it) and that makes a huge mess and damages rocks as well, but the new competition is Raytech's Tumble-Vibe 5 AND the Mini-Sonic Dial Speed Control Tumbler. I have a Lot-O and my girlfriend has a Mini Sonic MT-10. Here's my experience with both:
The Lot-O makes less noise while running. I have it on a bench in my garage. It's against the wall my back is to when I'm in my living room watching TV and I can barely hear it. It costs less than the single barrel Mini Sonic but you need to mount it to a heavy block you provide. It runs at one speed. It can be a little finicky in the 120/220 stage but overall gets good results. The barrel on the Lot-O has a little pocket in the center bottom that can be tough to clean out if small bits get jammed in there. Some people fill this with epoxy or some other type of permanent filler. The mouth of the Lot-O is round and a bit smaller than the Mini Sonic's square mouth.
The Mini Sonic buzzes like a super powered electric shaver. My GF has it on the floor of her garage and it can be heard to some degree most places in her two story house. The tumbling action it produces with the dials on 100% is impressive! It really cycles the barrel contents. The higher power makes it a bit less sensitive to slurry thickness compared to the Lot-O. The ability to adjust the action via knob is nice if you're tumbling softer material but most of the time they stay at 100%. The barrels for the Mini Sonic are pretty heavy duty and smooth throughout their interior. You can fit larger material in there versus the Lot-O due to the wide square barrel mouth.
I've had the Lot-O running 24/7 for about a year with no break downs.
The Mini Sonic has been running 24/7 for about 6 months with no issues. Overall I'd say the Mini Sonic edges out the Lot-O in raw performance but the Lot-O is much quieter and costs less. You can get great results with both of them once you learn the machines and adapt your process to suit them.

The Mini-Sonic does allow more heat near the barrel and will dry out a polish stage in no-time. It does have to be baby sat and sprayed down every so often to keep it moist and moving

I would go with the Lot O if you feel you are mechanically inclined. If you can cut tough glue, and set up an adjustment system for the tuning rod. Or if you feel lucky that it is set properly for all stages. (which it cannot be, unless you make it adjustable).
Otherwise get an easily user adjustable one. The end result is what it's all about and that depends a lot on being able to say "this should be vibrating slower/faster" in a lot of cases

I am very pleased with my 18 pound TT UV18 for my prepolish and polish stages, fed by two TT Model B 15 pound rotary tumblers that do the stage 1 and 2 heavy lifting.
