So my son's boss wants me to wrap one of the fairburn cabs for his wife for Christmas. Unfortunately, all I have right now are rotary tumblers. They're in 500 grit right now with my other cabs, I usually do a week per grit size and a week in polish which might not give me enough time. I was thinking about shortening the time by a day or two. Would it be better to do this in 500, 1200, polish, or none of the above? Thanks.

I always did aluminum oxide 500 to aluminum oxide polish in the rotary. Skipped 1000. Not SiC 500, but AO 500. Either way you are cutting it close. I think the 1200 step will set you back, but use it if you are using SiC for your 500 step.

Anyone you know who would lend you a vibratory tumbler? If so you can finish everything in a week +/-.

Always a temptation to cheat a bit on the 500/polish steps using a rotary. Never pays off, you end up with a sub standard polish.
